WONDERING...
Real questions from real people to learn more about faith
Why is there a Sunday called 'Christ the King'? Unlike many other high holy days in the church, Christ the King does not connect to ancient pagan rituals but to a more modern issue. It was created by Pope Pius XI in 1925 to deal with the rise of 'nationalism and secularism' (multiple sources agree on this) in the world. Originally held on the final Sunday in October when many protestant churches celebrated the Reformation, it was moved to the Sunday before Advent begins in 1970. It seems that once again around the world there is a rise in nationalism and secularism. What messages about Christ might the faithful need to hear in order to proclaim it to the world?

Pastor Trudy's Weekend Message
Jesus says, 'My kingdom is not from this world.' We are always in a bit of a struggle to try to use our language to explain God's work in the world. On the very Sunday that Pilate tries to pin the term 'King' on Jesus, we do the very same thing by celebrating Christ the King Sunday. Perhaps we also are uncertain about proclaiming the Good News about a Savior who washes feet rather than someone who soundly defeats an enemy with weapons.
Holy and Mighty God, we struggle to name You with our limited language. You showed us who You are in Jesus; now send us to follow Him; washing feet, bringing healing, and proclaiming resurrection. In His name we pray, Amen.

We did a one classroom Sunday School and FUN was had by all! Inspired by the week’s reading, Mark 13:1-8, we built towers and knocked them down!

Quilts on their way to Lutheran World Relief
GLC quilts have been packed up and sent to Lutheran World Relief for distribution around the world! Recipients of these quilts may use them for warm bedding, simple tents or floor coverings. Some of these quilts have also been sent to our ministry partner, Mutual Ground. Thank you to our quilters for sharing their time and talents to produce these tangible gifts of love! Watch the short video to learn more about quilt donations to LWR.
GLC quilters meet at church on Wednesday mornings at 9:30. All are welcome and no experience is necessary, seriously! Contact Sally Harmon for more information. #generouslifeinChrist
