WONDERING...
Real questions from real people to learn more about faith
If I pass by someone who is asking for money or food, does that mean I'm not generous? This question got more real when I got a text that there was someone standing outside of the church last Sunday asking for money. We went out to see if there was a need we could meet and my heart was warmed to see that he was eating Sunday school snacks and had a juice box to drink. Actually figuring out what would be helpful that we could actually provide was a little more complicated. In these situations I feel unequipped! That's why our partnerships with local organizations are so important. As for personal actions, whether you give or walk by; it starts with some heart work. Why do I want to give and what am I willing to give? What role does guilt play? What is faithful for me? I know plenty of people who channel all of their support to organizations and don't give individual gifts. Others keep dollar bills or bags with a few basic supplies at the ready to give. One act of generosity often opens up possibilities for many more.

Pastor Trudy's Weekend Message
We will be celebrating the festival of All Saints this weekend (All Saints Day is November 1). We take time to remember all the saints who have gone before us and have taught us about Christ's love, with special commendations for those who have died in the past year. In our Lutheran understanding of saints, it is not about living a flawless life but about celebrating the work that Jesus has done that we can't do for ourselves, the gift of salvation.  We will bring that understanding to our scripture which appears to have a person who gets it right and some who get it wrong. I wonder what we might find if we disregard our human labels and lean into Jesus' gift.

Good and gracious God, You sent Jesus to accompany us and to set an example of faithfulness. Our work is to trust and live into and out of that gift. Help! In Jesus' name, Amen.

Lutheran Outdoor Ministries Center
Mission Impact Update:

LOMC is an outdoor sanctuary and resource for churches and organizations throughout Illinois. Every summer we take students to LOMC for confirmation camp, but LOMC is a year-round ministry! You can go for some time away with family and friends or volunteer to keep trails clear and buildings up to date. It's relatively close— just over an hour away! Geneva Lutheran gifted LOMC $13,000—they plan to use these funds to upgrade their dining hall and water heaters.

How you can join the mission:
  • Check out LOMC.org for volunteer opportunities and more ways to support their mission.
Have you been attending GLC for a while and want to know more? Come discover more about GLC! We will gather at Old Towne (Geneva) to have conversation and fellowship and to share more about how we can live into generous lives together. Snacks and non-alcoholic beverages provided. RSVP to Julie Slifka.

For those who prefer a meeting at church, keep following along in the enewsletter—we plan to set more dates soon.
