Senate Bill 273 Signed

On September 26th, Governor Carney signed Senator Buckson's Senate Bill 273.


This Act legalizes the sale and distribution of raw milk and products derived from raw milk by dairy producers directly to consumers for human consumption.

Senate Bill 206


Governor Carney signed Senator Brian Pettyjohn's Senate Bill 206 this past September.


Senate Bill 89 from the 152nd General Assembly allows municipal-owned snow removal vehicles to use green revolving or flashing lights during winter operations, similar to state vehicles. This bill extends the same use of green lights on municipal owned-and-operated snow removal equipment and vehicles during winter weather operations. The Act also includes technical corrections to align existing law with the Delaware Legislative Drafting Manual.

Notice for Sussex County Residents


Sussex County Council expects tax bills based on the ongoing reassessment to be issued next August. During the regular meeting on Oct. 15, council members discussed the appeals process with updates from county staff and Tyler Technologies, the contractor for the reassessment.


In November, property owners will receive tentative value notices. An informal appeals process will run from Nov. 11 to Jan. 31, 2025, allowing residents to contest their new valuations. Chris Keeler, the county’s assessment director, noted that appeals will be held at the Sussex County West Complex, starting Nov. 7. Appointments can be made by calling (833) 703-4016 or visiting www.tylertech.com/sussex. Evidence supporting claims must be submitted in advance to sussexcountyde@tylertech.com.


Delaware State Fire Marshal News Release


State Fire Marshal John W. Rudd has ordered a burning ban that started on October 15th for all outdoor burning, as current conditions throughout the State of Delaware are extremely dry and pose a fire hazard.


The following are prohibited:

  • Bonfires.
  • Controlled burnings, including burning of leaves and yard waste.
  • Agricultural burnings.
  • Fires for land clearing.
  • Fires for demolition and removal of hazards.
  • Outdoor rubbish fires, whether or not contained.


Currently permitted:

  • Campfires in areas cleared of all combustibles, surrounded by a non-combustible ring no larger than 3' x 3' and used for cooking only.
  • Grills/hibachis in areas cleared of surrounding combustibles and used for cooking only.

Grant-in-Aid Applications Being Accepted

The FY2026 Grant-in-Aid application period is open now through Friday, December 6th, at 3:00 p.m.
