A CHRISTIAN RESPONSE TO BIBLICAL FEASTS

There are seven God-ordained and mandated biblical feasts that were required of His chosen people, the Israelites, a/k/a Jews. Four were in the Spring and three in the Fall season. Although these were specifically instructed of the Jews, some people have wondered how a Christian should view them or respond to them.

The first thing to understand is that each of these holy days (feasts or periods) relate specifically to certain historical matters or recurring events.

The second thing to realize is that all seven had or have a prophetic element to be fulfilled.

The Jews only see the historical events commemorated in the spring Feast. They fail to see that all four were prophetically fulfilled by Jesus Christ, the Messiah whom they refuse to recognize. Christians on the other hand understand.

The Fall Feasts also have historical significance to the Jew and they also see the future prophetic in some elements of them. We Christians see the prophetic, but we tend to be oblivious to the historical elements of them.

Whether or not a Christian celebrates the Jewish (Biblical) festivals (feasts) is a matter of conscience for the individual. The vast majority do not celebrate them as prescribed in the bible, and that is perfectly fine as we see in Apostle Paul’s writing. Colossians 2:16-17 (Young’s Literal Translation 98) says to the Christian, “Let no one, then, judge you in eating or in drinking, or in respect of a feast, or a new moon, or of sabbaths, which are (all) a shadow of the coming things and the body (fulfillment, substance) is of Christ.”

Jesus Christ is the complete fulfillment of all seven biblical “feasts” or “holy convocations.” We have the “real deal” in Jesus. Our place is to be knowledgeable of the historical and prophetic significance of the seven biblical celebrations or observances so that we can understand how they relate to God’s historical plan of redemption from creation to the establishment of Christ’s kingdom on earth.

We will study the following Fall Feasts (convocations):

1.      Feast of Trumpets (Rosh Hashanah)
2.     Day of Atonement (Yom Kippur)
3.     Feast of Tabernacles (Sukkot/Simchat Torah)

We will all benefit from a better understanding about Biblical feasts of what God has done and what He shall yet do in the times ahead. We also will better understand the Jewish heritage upon which our Christian faith was built.

SHUT IN WITH GOD

As I was meditating on scriptures about end time events, the Holy Spirit took me to the book of beginnings – Genesis. Most all the world knows the story of Noah, and how he built an ark and took animals with him into the ark.

In Genesis chapter 6 it tells us in verse 9, “…Noah was a just man and perfect in his generations, and Noah walked with God.” It continues in chapter 9 to tell us that God looked upon the earth, and it was corrupt. ALL flesh was corrupt except for Noah and his family which included his three sons, their wives, and Noah’s wife. Only 8 people! God gives Noah instructions on building the ark, and what to take into the ark. He tells him in verse 17 that he will bring a flood of water to destroy all flesh, but that He will make a covenant with Noah.

Chapter 7 verse 1 tells us, “And the LORD said unto Noah, Come, thou and all thy house into the ark; for thee have I seen righteous before me in this generation.” This is the second affirmation to Noah of the life he had lived and was living, that he was “perfect” and “righteous.”

In verse 4 of chapter 7 it says, “for yet seven days, and I will cause it to rain upon the earth forty days and forty nights; and every living substance that I have made will I destroy from off the face of the earth.” Verse 10 tells us that AFTER 7 days the waters of the flood were upon the earth.

In verse 16, it speaks in retrospect, saying “And they that went in, went in male and female of all flesh, as God had commanded him: and the LORD shut him in.” You will notice that God shut the door of the ark. Noah did not shut it. He was shut in with God for seven days before the flood came. This indicates to me, since Jesus said it would be as in the days of Noah when he returns, that there will be a seven day period (or as mentioned in Daniel’s 70-th week ) that like in the days of Noah, we are shut in with God. Notice also, that the ark did not leave the earth. It wasn’t transported to heaven. It was there right where it was built for seven days then the flood came which lasted 40 days and nights.

I sense God is telling us that we need to be shut in with him in these days because what is coming is going to be worse than we can imagine. We must be in a place where nothing on the outside bothers us so we can hear from God. Remember, we are in the world, but we are not to be of the world.

Things prophetically are happening so quickly with the plagues, and the shutdown of the entire world, and a one-world government forming to take the Christian’s rights away. Don’t put off spending time alone with God and seeking His face. Remember being in the ark did not cause them to escape the flood – they were just protected from it in the safety of the ark. They rode above the consequences of total annihilation, but God saved Noah and his family, and He will save a remnant too. Jesus is our ark, and He will keep us safe too if we are shut in with Him.
