Pay attention to the use of "wages" versus "gift." Scripture talks in other places about being relieved of debt as a gift.
Wages are something that is earned through working a specific job for a specific amount of time or for a specific purpose. We earn our wages. When Paul uses the term "wages", he is expressing the way that we ourselves choose to sin, do the time sinning, and in term earn death.
A gift, on the other hand, is something not earned. When we receive birthday gifts, we receive them just for being born. When we receive Christmas gifts, we receive them just for *Christ* being born.
We have a gift given to us through Christ's birth, death, and resurrection. This isn't something we can earn, nor is it something we can have taken away. We have received this gift *through* Christ.
May we never forget this incredible gift and the love that has been shown through it.
Prayer Focus: Lord, help me remember what a wonderful gift we received through your Son, Jesus. Amen.
