THE HELMET OF SALVATION
In Ephesians chapter 6 we are told, “For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.” Since it is not flesh and blood that we wrestle with, then we know that the entities that we wrestle against are demonic spirits. They operate through people and have one purpose and that is to destroy mankind. Remember, it is not the person, it is the spirit in the person behind this “wrestling match.”
Before we are saved, we are led by these spirits, because our spirit is dead towards the things of God. Many have “religion,” but they don’t have relationship. These spirits go to church and they go to work in people. They cause strife, confusion and manifest themselves even in “the choir.” One Pastor I knew said that he wouldn’t have a choir because there was more dissention in the choir than any other part of the church. Why? Because Satan hates praise and will do anything to stop it.
Satan does not send us his plan to read, but he does whisper into our ears. He brings doubt, confusion and often depression to us if we listen to him. He uses thoughts like, “You’ll never be any different.” “You failed with God and He will never love you.” “No one loves you, you pitiful useless piece of junk, why don’t you kill yourself.” Yes, the battlefield is in the mind. If he can get us to think on the wrong things, then “stinkin’ thinkin’ leads to sinkin”.
So, how do we combat this? It is only through salvation through Jesus Christ that things will change for us, and then God gives us the weapons to fight with in Ephesians 6. One of the weapons is wearing the helmet of salvation. It means we put the word of God into our minds, and wear Jesus in our thoughts instead of listening to Satan and his lies. We must retrain our thinking to bring thoughts in line with what God says, and not the devil!
When Satan says we will die from Covid19, cancer, or any other disease, then we quote the scripture that says in Psalm 107:20, “He sent his word and healed them, and delivered them from their destructions.” We must speak this when Satan speaks death. We cannot focus on his lies my friends because they will defeat us. When he tells us no one loves us then we read Romans 5:6 where it says Christ died for the ungodly.
When we are low on finances we quote, Philippians 4:19 which says, “But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.” We study the scriptures to know what scripture to use as a weapon against these things. All of God’s promises are ours by faith.
Satan was defeated at the cross, but we daily work out our salvation by putting to death the things of darkness and walking in light. His weapon is deception. He cannot deceive those that have the Word of God in their minds. We must daily wear our helmet of salvation to protect our thoughts! Then we become more than conquerors through Jesus Christ!

TO GIVE AND BE GIVEN – LESSON 20
GIVE THE SACRIFICE OF YOUR BODY
This series “To Give and to Be Given” began 1-23-21 with the first eight lessons on what we are “To Give.” Then lessons 9-19 look at what we are to “Be Given” by God. We now return to focus once again on what we are “To Give” to God to glorify Him.
Romans 12:1 says, “I beseech you (urge, or call upon you) therefore, brethren by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.”
The physical body of the believer belongs to God, not to the person. We tend to get it backwards. We feel our body is our own. We obsess over our weight, what and how much to eat, our health, our emotions, how we “feel” and so forth, but scripture tells us otherwise.
I Corinthians 6:19-20 says, “What? Know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost, which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? For ye are bought with a price (the blood of Jesus), therefore glorify God in your body and in your (human) spirit which are (belong to) God’s.”
This says God bought us “lock, stock and barrel” with Jesus’ blood. Our (human) spirit and our physical human body now are owned by Him. We must deal with our physical body in all ways so as to glorify God. We must “present your bodies (as) a living sacrifice, holy” unto God.
We must consider our body as an instrument set aside, sanctified, set apart unto God’s holiness (Holy spirit) within us.
The “sacrifice” is to avoid things which harm or defile God’s “holy temple” which is the physical body. What defiles His temple? Here are just a few of those things:
1. Sin: Any kind of sin be it lying, deceit, gossip, pride, gluttony, boastfulness, abusive behaviors, and so forth.
2. Harmful Substances: Things that harm or defile the body such as nicotine, alcohol, drugs of various kinds, stimulants, and so forth.
3. Physical excessiveness of any kind: Philippians 4:5 says, “Let your moderation be known…” whatever we do must be done in moderation, not in extremes. Choosing on your own to fast excessively can harm the body, as well as excessive (obsessive) exercise.
4. Lustfulness: lust is an intense desire or obsessive thought about almost anything. It could be sex, money, power, prestige, material things, and so forth. It is related to greed, or envy, or covetousness.
The “sacrifice” is more than just avoiding the above things. It is also to do that which honors God and brings Him glory through how you handle your body and its physical presence in this world. This relates to how we live (called our “conversation” in KJV). How we handle the physical presence of our body must never cast doubt upon our relationship with God.
