Mountains to Marsh: Trip to Charleston in April 2027
Don't miss this exciting opportunity to travel with the Chancel Choir and Racial
Justice Team to Charleston, S.C.! We’ll experience the boundary-breaking love of
Christ by building and strengthening relationships within FPCA, learning about
racial justice history and current challenges and work in Charleston, and using
our gifts and passion as we worship in a different setting, together. Find trip details and register here; sign up by Oct. 31. Contact Elizabeth LaJeunesse with any questions.
Faith & Fellowship in November — Held, Seen & Pieced Together
Every created being is creative, even those of us who would never call ourselves artists. We are made in the image of a Maker. As we prepare for Advent, when God took on ordinary flesh, we’ll spend time with three living artists. Read alongside scripture, their work helps us ask what it means to bear that image. This is not a lecture series. Each class is hands-on and interactive. We’ll look closely, talk together, and make something with our own hands. No artistic experience is needed, only curiosity. Faith & Fellowship meets at 9:45 am in the ground floor fellowship hall.
Presbyterian Women will gather on Monday, Nov. 2, at 10:30 am in Room 112, where Rev. Dr. Patrick Johnson will lead a discussion on how Christian freedom is shaped not by self-interest but by love, humility, and concern for others. All women are invited to join these monthly gatherings as we share in study, prayer, and conversation. Study booklets are available to purchase in the church office for $15. Email Sandra Strickland at life@fpcasheville.org for more information.
Still FLO (Young Adults) Serving with Saturday Sanctuary on Nov. 7
We will be trained together at 11:30 am, eat lunch with neighbors, serve together, and clean up after neighbors leave at 2 pm. Those who would like to can then venture together to a nearby spot for further fellowship and debriefing the experience. RSVP to David Germer by Nov. 3.
Join the Habitat Faith Build This Fall
This is the 33rd year that, together with other faith communities, FPCA is building a house for a local family. There are jobs for all skill levels (16 years and older), and we have reserved three work days for those who want to help build: Saturdays, Oct. 31 and Nov. 14, and Friday, Nov. 20. Other slots are also available. Monetary contributions are also welcome. Learn more here or contact Bill Winkler at life@fpcasheville.org.
Wednesday Night Dinners are for more than those participating in Wednesday evening programs! Small groups, committees, and anyone who would enjoy dinner and fellowship are welcome to join us. If you are not already registered as part of a Wednesday night program, such as Children’s Choir, RSVP to life@fpcasheville.org by Monday of the week you’re coming so we can plan for you. We will skip dinner on a few Wednesdays throughout the year to coordinate with other church ministries and school calendars, so check the weekly church calendar to see when dinner is being served.
Building Bridges Panel Discussions at FPCA — All are welcome!
We have been hosting the fall Building Bridges course here at FPCA, with a fantastic team of volunteers. Now through Nov. 2, panel discussions are open to our community, on Mondays from 6:30 to 8 pm in the FPCA fellowship hall. Here is the schedule of topics:
- October 26: Racism and Anti-Racism in Healthcare in Asheville
- November 2: Reparations in Asheville
The FPCA Racial Justice Team encourages anyone who is interested in learning more about anti-racism work in Asheville to attend as many of these sessions as possible! Contact David Germer with any questions.
Saturday Sanctuary
Every Saturday for roughly six months, we provide a warm meal and a safe and welcoming space to neighbors, building relationships and finding Jesus in our midst, right in the fellowship hall. Contact David Germer with questions or to be added to the email list.
Interested in joining FPCA? Our Session welcomes new members on the third Sunday of the month at 9:45 am. Our next opportunity will be Sunday, Nov. 15. For more information, please contact Nancy McNeill.
