It is hard to believe that Lent begins next Wednesday! Starting that day, the school will begin gathering all together to celebrate Mass on Wednesdays. We are looking forward to all being together once again! Because we will all be in the church together, we will not be able to guarantee a distance of three feet between students so we encourage everyone to wear a mask for that short time we are all together. Of course, masks are still optional but with the closeness of seating we wanted students to be aware they can choose to wear masks for that specific time period and will not have to wear them for the entire day. Please discuss this with your child(ren) and help them make a decision for next Wednesday.

LENT

This year for Lent, St. Veronica School will be focusing on personal and communal prayer. Throughout Lent we will be talking about the four different types of prayer: Adoration, Contrition, Thanksgiving, and Supplication. We have also partnered each type of prayer with a Lenten activity:

Adoration - Students will attend 1st Wednesday Adoration on March 2 throughout the day.

Contrition - We will have a communal Divine Mercy Chaplet in church on Friday March 11th at 2:15. Everyone is welcome to join us.

Thanksgiving - Classes will be given booklets to focus on the Stations of the Cross this week, when they can thank Jesus for his sacrifice of dying on the cross for us so we can have the chance to enter heaven.

Supplication (asking for the needs of ourselves and others) - We will have a communal Rosary in church on April 1 at 2:15 to pray for intercession based on needs. Everyone is welcome to join us.

SPELLING BEE CHAMPION

In my last newsletter I reported that Olivia Mueller and Olivia Biernat both scored perfect scores in the online spelling test and would go to a tie breaker round. After TWO rounds of perfect score ties on the online platform, Mrs. Johnson decided to hold an in-person final round tie breaker bee with the girls. They went for several rounds before a winner was finally determined.

Congratulations to Olivia Biernat for being our 2022 St. Veronica School Champion! Olivia Mueller, our runner up, put up a fantastic fight!

Olivia Biernat will move onto the next round where she will complete on another online test to see if she qualifies in the top 20 competitors for the Local Spelling Bee. The Local Spelling Bee will then be held VIRTUALLY on March 19, 2022.

Congratulations again to both Olivia Biernat and Olivia Mueller on their great achievement. We’re proud to have them represent St. Veronica.

REGISTRATION

A friendly reminder that 2022-23 registrations are still being accepted. We ask that you turn yours in as soon as possible, as this helps us make important decisions for the upcoming school year.

The Early Bird deadline is tomorrow, Friday, February 25. If you are interested in getting in the drawing for a $3,000 tuition rebate, you must turn in your registration and full payment.

EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES

We still have two openings in the cafeteria at St. Veronica: Assistant Cook and Cafeteria Monitor.

Assistant Cook - This position is from 9:00am-1:30pm Monday through Thursday and 10:00am-1:30pm on Friday. This person would help make salads and side dishes for student and teacher lunches. Honestly, you do not even have to be fabulous in the kitchen.

Cafeteria Monitor - This position is from 10:45am-12:30pm Monday through Friday. This person will work with other school personnel to help students open packages and milk cartons, help sanitize between lunches and keep the peace in the cafeteria.

Spring Track Registration Open - Deadline Feb. 28th

St. Veronica will not be offering a track program this spring, however boys and girls in grades K-8 who are interested in running track this spring are invited to sign up and run with St. Thomas More. A MESSAGE FROM P.E. TEACHER, MR. LOUIS

February is American Heart Month and we would like to engage our St. Veronica community in this year's Kids Heart Challenge. In conjunction with the balance and cardiovascular units being taught in Physical Education class, students and families can register and donate to the American Heart Association to help create awareness about heart disease, stroke, lung cancer and heart attacks. *Please note the dates in the registration link are incorrect, but will be updated. The Kids Heart Challenge officially begins February 28th and will conclude on March 18th.
