Food for Thought

Sunday Worship
  September 16 -

The letter of James in chapter 3, verses 1-12, speaks of the qualities of teachers and the power of words and speech for good and for will. In our reading from Mark 8: 27-28, Jesus asks his disciples, “Who do people say that I am?” Peter responds by answering, “You are the Messiah.”
Today we will be commissioning our Christian Education teachers. Spirit will be singing.  The Rev. Carolyn Roberts will be preaching. Her sermon title is: Identity Matters.
A dult Education, Sunday, September 16

Let’s Study the Bible                       9:30 – 10:15 a.m.
Meets in the Liz Coffey Room, basement of the main sanctuary building
In this class, we will seek to draw out the major themes found in the Lectionary scripture texts on which the sermon will be based. Exploring the lectionary Scriptural texts before the Sunday morning worship (10:30 a.m.) service will help prepare participants to more fully involved and more present in worship. Come join us as we seek to accurately anticipate what the morning’s sermon topic will be. Getting it right is a lot of fun.
Facilitated by Stefan Mach and Richard Leslie.
Let’ s Talk              9:30 – 10:15 a.m.
Meets in the North Room of the Parish House
The Great Convergence
A series of 7 video presentations on how conservative and liberal Christians are coming together and finding common ground and connections.

The Great Convergence is a term used to describe the coming together of refugees from Christian liberalism and conservatism in recent years. It’s not a “meeting in the middle,” but a meeting “out in the wilderness” where those who have felt alienated or estranged from their native traditions have been drawn out to find faith in a new way beyond liberalism and conservatism.
This Sunday: The Gifts of the Indigo Tent
F eatured on this week’s video is the Rev. Cameron Trimble. Trimble is the Executive Director of the Center for Progressive Renewal. She most recently served as an advisor to the Congregational Vitality and Discipleship Team of Local Church Ministries for the United Church of Christ and as Associate Conference Minister of Church Development in the Southeast Conference of the UCC. In her ministry in the national setting, Rev. Trimble was responsible for the development of national strategy for birthing new churches. In her conference setting, she directly oversaw the birthing of churches throughout the Southeast Conference. Each setting has given her a unique perspective on the challenges of cultivating leaders equipped to meet the needs of the future of mainline Protestantism.

PLEASE take time to review these lists and let us know if there is anyone missing.  CLICK HERE for the list.

We will be sending this to print by the end of next week, so please review here or on Sunday, in the back of the Sanctuary.
This is a LONG list of various projects members and friends of our congregation participated in to bring us to where we are today with our renovated and new space. In the Building Dedication program on October 7th, we want to include the list to give thanks for the many gifts people shared to make this building project a reality. It's rather amazing when you begin to read the attached documents.
Will you please check to make sure we included your name if you helped with these projects? If you notice that someone else's name is missing, please let us know. Please send the information to Amy in the church office:
Thanks for your help as we really do want to acknowledge everyone who has helped with the project.
