Dear Congregation:

The youth of ERUCC led worship last week and offered their hopes for their lives and the world. The theme for the service was “Dream God’s Dream” and they challenged us to consider how we are all a part of creating God’s dream for the world.  We heard about dreams of caring for the planet, of creating welcoming communities, of protecting women’s bodies, and a plea to help them to create a world where they don’t have to be afraid to go to school.

Just two days after our Youth Sunday services, we heard yet again of another school shooting. How many young lives will be taken away from this violence? How many more lives will be shattered? How many more families will endure the pain and grief?

I heard our youth express gratefulness for their church community and issuing a plea that we join them in creating a more peaceful, just, caring, and healthier world.

May we join them in hope and action

Food for Thought
Sunday Worship
The barriers fall as the Spirit leads.  We learn of the gift of hospitality extended by Lydia to Paul in Acts 16: 9-18. John 5:1–9 relates the Sabbath healing of an invalid beside the pool of Bethzatha (Bethesda) in Jerusalem. New life finally comes to one who had been unable to find healing here before.

Spirit will be singing. The Rev. Michele Beadle will be leading worship and preaching this morning. The title of her sermon is “The Cry of Macedonia.”

We will receive the Homewood Mother's Day offering on Sunday.

Let’s Study the Bible                       9:30 – 10:15 a.m.
Meets in the Liz Coffey Room, basement of the main sanctuary building
In this class, we will seek to draw out the major themes found in the Lectionary scripture texts on which the sermon will be based. Exploring the lectionary Scriptural texts before the Sunday morning worship (10:30 a.m.) service will help prepare participants to more fully involved and more present in worship.  Facilitated by Rev. Lee Thomas.

Let’s Talk               9:30 – 10:15 a.m. in the Community Room

Learning To Live a Full Life With Grief
A Grief Support Group Facilitated by Jo Ann Fritz

Loss comes to all of us at some time or another with multiple feelings, behaviors and choosing unhealthy lifestyles. It is important to move forward with your grief and at your own pace. Grief never ends, but our ability to live with it can get easier, but never forgetting our loved ones in the process.

All types of losses are included in this group: Loss of spouse, child, parent, friend, pet, job, etc. In this group we will not judge the losses, but work together to make life better for all. Togetherness, sharing, learning and supporting are key to moving forward.

The plan is to meet in the Thomas Room beginning Wednesday, May 15 at 1:00. Please call Jo Ann Fritz at 301-788-3640 for questions or to express interest.
Share Your Thoughts....on Thursday

We're looking for some writers for Thursday Thoughts for the summer months. We had guest writers during Pastor Daniel's sabbatical and the congregation really enjoyed the variety of perspectives and learning more about one another.

Interested? Let Pastor Daniel know and we will get you on the schedule. You would need to have a few paragraphs with your thoughts to the church office by Wednesday of your week.

Ovarian Cancer Awareness Fundraiser - MONDAY!

Please plan to join us on Monday, May 13th from 4:00-9:00 for our annual ovarian cancer awareness fundraiser at La Paz Restaurant- 51 South Market Street. Dine in, carry out or purchase a gift card and a percentage of the proceeds go to our 2019 walk. Just remember to tell your server you are there to support ovarian cancer awareness. Graham Baker, owner of La Paz, has been very generous over the past 5 years with the percentage he has donated to our walk. Everyone has to eat so this is a win-win (and no dishes to wash :-)!)

Please let me know if you are interested in a gift card. They are $25 and $5 comes back to the NOCC. I have already sold 50 and may purchase more if there is interest. You can use them on the 13th or any other time.

Also, I would love to have you walk with me on June 15th in Baker Park. If you are interested or would like to donate, please go to  https://runwalk.ovarian.org/frederick/Team/View/97608/Cathies-Warriors
