Dear Congregation:

This week’s writer for Thursday Thoughts is Rev. Carolyn Roberts, chair of the Stewardship Committee:

Somewhere along the years, I heard the comment that if God’s love were to wear a face, it would be the face of Jesus. Not as a photograph of Jesus of Nazareth, of course, but as one who offered love to the unloved, to the marginalized and outcast, to the voiceless and the powerless: children, women, and those outside the racial, ethnic, and cultural norms of one’s own community, to neighbor and enemy. As Jesus’ disciples, we are called to model that same grace-filled love.

Over the past four weeks, our congregation has been engaged in the fall stewardship campaign, Faces of Love. Through the testimonies of ERUCC’s members, we have been reminded that we represent faces of love throughout our community. From our radical hospitality on Frederick’s Candlelight Tour and generous sharing of facilities, to our vibrant support of children and youth, to our witness for justice and engagement in community service, we have modeled that love. This is what we are called to do.

Thank you, thank you, thank you to every member and friend of ERUCC, for the many ways in which you give a face to God’s love. Thank you, thank you, thank you for your financial commitment to support ERUCC’s mission and ministry in 2020, that we may continue to share God’s love in ways that heal and unite.

Food for Thought
"May you stay in that place of wonder and wisdom that lies between the uncertainty of the world and the dependable grace of our God."
(Anabel Proffitt, Associate Professor of Educational Ministries at Lancaster Theological Seminary)
Sunday Worship
2 Thessalonians 1:1–4, 11–12 praises the community to which it is written, a community that is steadfast in the face of persecution. Luke 19: 1-10 tells of Jesus encounter with Zacchaeus and the crowd criticizes him for being the guest of one who is a sinner.

We will share in Holy Communion at the chancel rail on this All Saints Sunday as we remember in prayer those members of the congregation and friends and family members who have died in the past year. The Senior Choir will be singing. Children’s Music & Movement will also be singing.

Navigating the Holidays
This morning, Pastor Daniel will facilitate a conversation about how to navigate the emotional, physical and spiritual stresses that many of us face during the holidays.

Let’s Study the Bible and Prepare for Worship  Coffey Room
In this class, we will seek to draw out the major themes found in the Lectionary scripture texts on which the sermon will be based. Exploring the lectionary Scriptural texts before the Sunday morning worship (10:30a.m.) service will help prepare participants to more fully involved and more present in worship. Facilitated by Rev. Lee Thomas.

The children and youth will be creating care packages to send to our college students and those serving in the military. We are in need of donations to put in those care packages. Please consider donating prepackaged snacks, instant soup, popcorn, cocoa, tea, candy and raisins. Monetary donations welcomed and will be used to defray the cost of postage. Items donated can be put in the box in the Narthex of the main sanctuary. Interested in Learning More About ERUCC?
If you are interested in exploring further what it means to a member of the church or just have questions about who we are and what we believe, we have set an opportunity for conversation on Sunday, November 17 , following the 10:30 service (starting around 11:45). We will meet in the Community Room by the piano.
Our hope is to provide a taste for who we are as a congregation and our hopes for the future. Our life of faith is a journey. We are constantly growing, exploring, and learning what it means to be faithful people of Jesus Christ in our time and place.
Please consider this as an invitation to come and be a part of the conversation. For those interested in making a commitment to this particular congregation, we will be welcoming new members on Sunday, November 24 and December 8.
Please contact Pastor Daniel at or call the church office at 301-662-2762 if you are interested in further conversation.
