Fall Semester Honor Roll Announced

Hollister High School is proud to announce the Fall Semester Honor Roll, recognizing students who earned a grade point average of 3.0 or above while maintaining a full course load. A total of 1,481 students earned honor roll status, including nearly 48 percent of freshmen, 41 percent of sophomores, 41 percent of juniors and 45 percent of seniors. All of these students have worked diligently to succeed in the classroom. We are pleased to recognize them for their focus and celebrate their accomplishment. 8 Balers Named to CCS Honor Band

Eight Hollister High School students earned a spot in the Central Coast Section Honor Band! They won positions in this group by auditioning back in November and competed with students from Santa Cruz to San Luis Obispo to be a part of this 72-member ensemble. They will be performing at Cabrillo College in Aptos on Saturday, Feb. 10 at 2 p.m. Admission is free. The conductor is Sixto Montesinos from St. Mary's College and he has chosen a great set of authentic music from Central and South America. Over 10 precent of that band is comprised of Haybalers!

The students selected are:

  • Micah Bercasio: Clarinet
  • Avery Cua: Alto Sax*
  • Mikayla Dorado: Alto Sax
  • Leeza Gatson: Bass Clarinet*
  • Megan Phillips: Trumpet
  • Jared Provencio: Baritone Saxophone*
  • Eduardo Rosas: Tuba
  • Sonia Zambrano: Tuba

(* denotes "principal" chair, meaning they were the top student in the audition for that instrument).

Celebrating Habits of Learning

On Thursday, more than 300 students were invited to a pizza lunch in front of the ASB Building to celebrate those who earned four or more "outstanding" Habits of Learning marks on their report card during the first semester. In addition to the food and drink and extra time for lunch, the students were entered into a raffle to win a $50 Visa gift card per grade level. Nicole Alvarez and her leadership classes organized the event and Rob Campbell created grade-level videos celebrating the students. Photos courtesy of Ed Wong.
