DATA BREACH BY 3Di - CUSTODIANS OF PASADENA'S RENTAL REGISTRY

Pasadena's rent registry is facing yet another problem, after the vendor acting as database custodian failed to implement basic security controls.

In 2023, the Rent Board signed a disastrous $425,000 no-bid contract with a consultant that failed to develop the registry (see our 2024 email). In 2024, they hired 3Di - which delivered a registry almost a year later than Measure H required.

It turns out that 3Di failed to keep residents' and owners' data safe in Berkeley - leaving at least 60,000 citizens' personal information unprotected (see Daily California story).

Pasadena (as well as Los Angeles County) uses the same registry tool as Berkeley, but the Rent Stabilization Department has not commented on this issue. We don't know what protections are being implemented to protect your tenants' information or your own.

RENT REGULATION COVERS ALL RENTALS

Despite activists' false claims when they solicited votes for Measure H, the RSD demands registration and a fee of $238 per year for ALL rented houses, condos and ADU's.
