Pride Is in the Air
A sure sign that June is here is the proliferation of rainbow colors throughout our neighborhoods and churches. The excitement of inclusion is contagious, and nowhere was that more apparent than at Catonsville Presbyterian Church last weekend. Their second annual Catonsville Family Pride celebration was a lot of fun! There were pony rides, a stilt-walker, a multitude of vendors, story time with folks from the local library, snowballs, and four local churches.
Succession at The Center
On June 17, Rev. McKenna Lewellen will complete her service as Assistant Director of The Center to accept a call to serve as Temporary Supply Pastor of Maryland Presbyterian Church.

We are deeply grateful to McKenna for her 5 years of hard work, faithful service, and prophetic witness to God’s love and justice in action in the Baltimore Presbytery. In her 5 years at The Center, McKenna has helped shape and grow The Center’s ministry in ways that will have a lasting impact. She has brought theological knowledge and wisdom, a gift for teaching, a fierce commitment to equity and inclusion, and a wonderful sense of humor to The Center's daily work. She is an immensely gifted young pastor, and we will miss her!

For the remainder of the summer, we are excited to share that one of The Center's own Steering Committee members, Minister Shayla Redfearn will be working part-time as an Interim Program Director to cover some essential summer duties.

Shayla will be the primary contact for groups coming for summer mission weeks. Shayla is ordained in the Church of God faith tradition, and brings a wealth of experience to The Center and its ministry. She grew up in Baltimore City, currently serves as Director of Programs for At Jacob’s Well, and has served most recently as the Christian Education Director at Roland Park Presbyterian Church. Shayla also has her Doctorate of Strategic Leadership. We are thrilled to welcome her to our staff, and we are excited for you to meet her!

While we are saddened by McKenna’s departure, we look forward to what the future brings for The Center and ask for your thoughtful prayers during this transition.

Christ Our Anchor Turns 40
This past Sunday, Christ Our Anchor celebrated its 40 year anniversary. From modest beginnings in the cafeteria of Broadneck Elementary School in 1982, the church has turned challenges into opportunities, and remains grateful for their history and hopeful for the future. Now a multi-generational congregation, Chris our Anchor reflected on their ability to build and rebuild, grow and thrive.
To commemorate the milestone, a video was produced (created by their Media Specialist Anna Latta), and is worth a watch: We Built this Church

Big congratulations to Rev. Lowry and the entire Christ Our Anchor community. We can’t wait to see what the next 40 years bring!
