Presbytery Lights: An Advent Luminaria Devotional
While awaiting the blessed arrival of Christ during the Advent Season, the Christian Educators of the Baltimore Presbytery invite every household in the Presbytery to take part in our Advent Luminaria Devotional. We ask that churches provide each family in your congregation with a copy of the devotional. They'll also need a paper lunch bag, and a small battery-powered candle.
Starting on November 29 and then every Sunday before Christmas and on Christmas Day, gather your household, light your candle, place it in your decorated luminaria bag and meditate together on the lesson of the week — This Sunday, it's Hope.
Move over, Santa Claus
This fall, Adrienne Knight, of Knox Presbyterian embarked on interstate delivery expeditions across America to personally drop off Baltimore’s General Assembly communion wares to their new owners. There are still a half-dozen ceramic plates and chalices left, so if you are interested in purchasing a set for yourself, contact Adrienne at aoukar@verizon.net.
‘Tis the season: for crowdsourcing
We are collectively preparing for the most unusual Christmas of our lifetimes. And despite the social distancing restrictions imposed in Maryland and elsewhere, our desire to celebrate together remains very real. As a result, we will all be finding new ways to herald the coming of our Savior, Jesus Christ. Although we are sorry to not have the same opportunities to visit the gift fairs and Christmas pageants we normally look forward to in person, we are determined to share the joy, even if it’s virtual.

That’s where you can help. We’re assembling materials for sharing with our Presbyterian community, and inviting you to contribute your ideas and photos. Here are a few compilations we’ll be introducing in the weeks ahead. We hope you can join us by sharing your experiences.

Alternative giving
Does your congregation promote alternative giving suggestions? This year in particular, we know that the needs are growing in many communities at a time when resources are diminishing. This week, we’ll be compiling a webpage filled with suggestions for local donations or gift ideas.

Advent and Christmas scenes
Calling all photographers, shutterbugs, and smart phone users: Send us your pictures! This year, we’ll be curating a Facebook gallery of Christmas scenes from around the Presbytery. Examples of Luminaria (article above) are also encouraged! Show us what your Advent looks like. We might include your photo in an upcoming Tidings!

Online celebrations
Are you hosting or participating in any online Christmas events this season? Share news of your concerts, charitable activities, bible studies, or any other Advent programming, and we’ll be sure to include it for others to partake and enjoy,

Please email your news, resources or attachments to fperrelli@baltimorepresbytery.org so we can share widely!

Provider Search Coaching
As part of a larger effort to support the mental health and wellness of clergy, the Commissions on Ministry, Spiritual Leader Development, and Thriving, with the Ministry Group Conveners, and The Center have gathered a small group of coaches who are available if you are interested in locating a new mental health care provider. These “Provider Search Coaches” will meet with you for 20-30 minutes at a time to support you in researching potential mental health professionals, creating a manageable action plan, and obtaining accountability. The Presbytery is subsidizing the cost of these sessions, so it is free for you.

If you are interested in meeting with a Provider Search Coach, visit our website for more info. (This process is completely confidential.)
Ordination Exam Readers Sought
The Commission on Preparation for Ministry is seeking Ruling Elders and Teaching Elders who are interested in serving as Ordination Exam Readers during the week of May 3-7, 2021. Baltimore Presbytery has been requested to provide 2 ruling elders, 2 teaching elders, and 1 alternate reader.

Serving as an Ordination Exam Reader is a significant service to the Presbyterian Church (USA). Ordination examinations play a crucial role in the discernment and preparation of future teaching elders for the church. This program is dependent upon gifted and committed readers who provide the evaluations of this work done by our candidates. Learn what being a reader entails here.
Upcoming Events
Community Engagement Conversations Center staff gather on Zoom to facilitate a conversation about your congregation’s efforts to engage with the local community. Bring success stories, frustrations, questions, or places you are stuck, and we will brainstorm together. More information
