Happy Thanksgiving!
The General Presbyter, Moderator, Co-Moderator, Commissioners and Presbytery staff wish you, your family and congregations a safe, wonderful, and grateful holiday week. Happy Thanksgiving!
The Maryland Environmental Human Rights Amendment
There’s been a great deal of chatter about the Maryland Environmental Human Rights Amendment, and we wanted to share a few updates.

Earlier this month, during the Presbytery Learning Day, we hosted a workshop on the proposed amendment and a video recording is now available.
The Amendment will come up before the Maryland General Assembly again in January 2022, so it is not too early to start sharing information and educating your congregation. Because this is a proposed amendment to the Maryland state constitution, the decision before the General Assembly is whether or not to send it to the people of Maryland for a vote.

If you decide to offer education for members of your congregation, we request that you let us know by signing onto this Presbytery Call to Action. We are happy to have 4 churches already sign this past month: First Presbyterian of Howard County, Catonsville, Faith and Towson! Your church name can be added to the Call to Action on our website.
Once people are informed, we hope they will want to act. Your members can show their support in several ways:

  1. Sign the MDEHR petition.
  2. Email their legislators letting them know they are for the amendment. They can find their legislators here. Submit your address and voila, the information appears.
  3. Participate in MDEHR activities during the Maryland General Assembly

We have compiled some questions that have come up so far from our churches with answers from the MDEHR Campaign. We know that your concern for the care of creation can take many forms and we appreciate you taking time to consider if this should be one of them. Feel free to reach Susan Krehbiel for help with any additional resources.

Grants awarded for media/technology from PC(USA)
We were pleased to hear about “African American PC(USA) Ministry Boost” grants earlier this fall, but we are even more elated to learn that several Baltimore congregations have been named recipients.
The grants are to support African American congregations and African American new worshiping communities with their current media/technology needs as well as groups that need a boost in supporting their ongoing and active ministry and community programming. Congratulations to Knox Presbyterian, Cherry Hill Presbyterian, and Grace Presbyterian Church. The resources reflect these congregation’s commitments to their community and resilience amid a pandemic with lasting and disproportionate impacts on African American congregations.

The grants are offered by The Racial Equity & Women’s Intercultural Ministries (RE&WIM) and the Theology Formation & Evangelism (TFE) Ministries of the Presbyterian Mission Agency. To learn more, visit their website here.
