An update on Afghan refugees
As the situation continues to worsen for the Afghan people caught by the conflict and displaced from their homes, churches and organizations are coming together in the Baltimore area to welcome those who are coming to Maryland.
There are now 2 organizations that will receive Afghans in Baltimore City: International Rescue Committee has already begun receiving Afghans and the Esperanza Center of Catholic Charities which is setting up a new program later this fall to receive approximately 25 Afghans. They need our help.
A coordination group has formed with these 2 organizations to include ERICA (the local Episcopal ministry with refugees and asylum seekers), Asylee Women’s Enterprise (AWE), Immigration Outreach Service Center (IOSC) and the Presbytery. The Mayor’s Office of Immigrant Affairs has also offered their assistance.

Do you have the bookkeeping blues?
Church finances are complex. Would your congregation like some professional help? Our volunteer treasurers and administrative assistants do so much, but many of our congregations are realizing we need professional financial services. It can be difficult though to get the help we need, when we have so few hours to offer a trained professional. If this rings true for you and your church, you’re invited to join with other congregations in our Presbytery exploring sharing a staff position. If interested, please reach out to Lauren Salah, administrative assistant to Maryland Presbyterian Church at MPC@MPChurch.org

Reparations… What is owed? – Part 1
The 2nd season of the B’More Human Series begins October 18.
Last year, the B’More Human series explored the legacy of racial injustice, as well as its impact on racial disparities in wealth and health outcomes. The continuing impacts, both social and economic, of 250 years of chattel slavery; of 100 years of Jim Crow; of racist zoning laws and housing policy; of redlining and blockbusting; of white flight; of inequal access to health care, education, and community resources such as recreation centers and parks, are well-studied.
We will begin our new season of B’More Human by asking, “What will we do about it?” What do we owe and to whom, and how should payment be remitted? Read the full article here.
