Celebrating 50 years of women in the Episcopal priesthood

Earlier this week, The Episcopal Church celebrated the 50th anniversary of the ordination of women. Eleven women were first ordained on July 29, 1974, at the Church of the Advocate in Philadelphia, Pa. Throughout this week on social media, we've been highlighting the seven female priests and one female deacon who have served at Trinity Cathedral since that day in 1974.

The Rev'd Mia C. McDowell, who currently serves at Trinity as canon catechist, shared some reflections on this milestone and what it has meant in her life.

The Dean's Outreach Fund

The Canons of the Episcopal Church state that the cash received in the offering plate on one Sunday of every month, as well as "other offerings for the poor," is to be entrusted to the clergy of the parish for the relief of those in need, and "for other pious and charitable uses." At Trinity, these alms are held in the Dean's Outreach Fund, from which all three of our clergy are able to provide confidential financial support both to parishioners and others who require assistance. Though we do not provide cash or give directly to individuals, we are able to offer help by covering some expenses in times of need.

If you or a friend or family member are in need of assistance, please speak with one of our priests. It is a blessing to be able to help!

If you would like to contribute to the Dean's Outreach Fund for the support of others, please consider placing a cash gift in the offering plate on the first Sunday of the month, send a check to the finance office with "Dean's Outreach Fund" in the memo line, or select "Dean's Outreach Fund" from the drop-down menu on the Realm giving form.

On the Menu

Wednesday night suppers resume August 14! Join us from 5:30-6:30 p.m. every Wednesday for dinner prepared by our kitchen ministry team, and lots of fun and fellowship! Meals are $10 each, payable at the door or online. Kids and college students always eat free!

Frozen casseroles are still available!

The kitchen currently has breakfast casseroles and baked spaghetti available. $6 for single serving, $12 for two servings, $18 for four servings.

Stop by between 10:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m. on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays to pick up dinner and take it home. Payment by check or online.

Meals were a vital part of Jesus ministry. The first words of God to people were an invitation to eat. Jesus' last act on earth was the Last Supper. The kitchen ministry is also a vital part of life at Trinity. We need your help.

We are always looking for people to prep food, serve, set up and clean up at events, and wash dishes. Contact David Strasburger for more information.
