From the Rector
A
s the story's told to us in the Acts of the Apostles, Pentecost is the moment when the friends of Jesus discover that they can communicate to all sorts of people they never thought they'd be speaking to. They have the gift of 'tongues'. They can go out and make sense to all this great crowd of pilgrims assembling from every nation in Jerusalem. They can actually build bridges with strangers.
It's at this moment that the earliest Christians begin to understand that what they've got to say about Jesus is something that can be communicated in principle to absolutely anyone, to every human being to the ends of the earth.
So Pentecost is the moment when the command and promise given at the end of St Matthew's gospel becomes a reality:
"Go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit," says Jesus. When we think about the Holy Spirit, we're always thinking about the way God makes connections. Welcome to St Stephen's!
See you in church!
Father Ellsworth

Dear Friends,
A reminder: The Open Door Ministry in Sausalito needs you.
Open Door Donations & Volunteering
The Open Door Ministries of Sausalito has been serving the needs of the Anchor Out Community for almost 50 years (since 1970). Christ Church supports the Open Door Ministries both with our donations of gently used clothing and the time of our volunteers, who staff the "Clothes Closet" or donate food for the Friday evening dinner.
If you would like to make a donation of toiletries or gently used clothing or blankets, please bring those items with you and leave them in the church office labeled "Open Door" for Deacon Alberta. If you're interested in volunteering on Friday nights in the Clothes Closet, contact either Mickey Allison (
mickall1@yahoo.com) or Father Chip (
cblarrimore@gmail.com)
. There is a need for men's clothing, shoes, boots and jeans.
Israel Palestine
Next week this time Dave and I will be in Israel Palestine. It is a trip I've dreamed of for many years. We will be walking in the footsteps of Jesus, the disciples and the people of the Old Testament. We hope to see Jerusalem, Bethlehem, the Sea of Galilee, Nazareth, Emmaus and many other holy places. The timing, however, may not be ideal.
If you've been watching the news you know that this week, may be more tense than usual there. This week marks 70 years since the United Nations made the decision to recognize the modern state of Israel. For the indigenous Palestinian Christians and Muslims this meant being forcibly expelled from their homes and making them refugees in their own land. It is also the week that President Trump has chosen to move the U.S. embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem. The Muslim holy month of Ramadan begins now as well. Muslims will fast from dawn to dusk. More stress on a stressful situation.
You might see some scary images in the news but we will be fine. We ask for your prayers. We will be with experienced guides who are sure to keep us out of hot spots and we will have many stories and pictures to share with you when we return. I hope to post some on Facebook.
See you in early June
.

May Artist-In-Residence Gallery, Kimball Hall
Blake C. Ahrens: First Oils
"I have called myself a writer since I was six years old. The 3rd of October, 2017, was my introduction to painting. Since that day, I have created 26 paintings and counting. Since this gift has made itself manifest, I feel called to the canvas. I am so very grateful to God, my painting teacher Graciela Placak, to my loving and supportive partner Heather Findlay, and to the warm and welcoming community at St Stephen's for this chance to show you my work." - Blake C. Ahrens

Communications Survey
Help us help you!
Please use the link below to let the staff know how best to inform you so that you can be a part of all that goes on here with the St Stephen's Community. If you prefer, you can instead fill out the same questionnaire printed at the back of this week's Sunday bulletins and tear it out of the leaflet and leave it in a basket either in the Narthex (the entry of the Church) or on the table in the Foyer of the Parish House.
