From the Rector

We begin Holy Week with our observation of Palm Sunday/Passion Sunday. On this day, Jesus made a deliberately performative action, which he surely knew put his life at risk. Jesus did not seek political power, but he never ran from calling out the political will to power that threatened the flourishing of the most vulnerable. Likewise, he did not hesitate to critique religious power that missed the mark of God’s own loving justice. Jesus’ action on this day set in motion the events that would culminate in his execution as a threat to empire. So we take on the discipline of Holy Week, knowing we are accompanied by the Spirit of Jesus who dwells with us in memory and hope.

Please remember several things about Sunday’s service:

  • Palm fronds will be given out as we gather in the foyer at Christ UCC on Sunday morning. We will begin the Liturgy of the Palms and process in as we sing “All glory, laud, and honor.”

  • The Passion Gospel will be read dramatically during this service. Please be mindful that we will not stand for this reading until instructed in the bulletin to rise where the place of the Skull is mentioned. The instructions to do so are bold in the bulletin.

  • Palm Sunday is also our Second Sunday Offering, with items donated to New Bethany. Please see below for the type of items wanted for this Offering.

Blessings,
