From the Rector

I love this image of the Resurrected Christ. I think he also looks like the Dancing Christ. Filled with delight and wonder, moving in rhythm with the music of the spheres (or maybe a good Motown tune). A perfect image, too, for the Resurrected Body of Christ.

We have been worshiping at Christ UCC for one year and four months. (I know, seems like just a week, yes?) Our call in this time of dislocation and patient waiting has been to remain the Resurrected Body of Christ, filled with followers of the Way of God, who walk and maybe even dance along this Way, and seize an opportunity to understand how the young church felt after the resurrection of Jesus. They didn't know what awaited them. Yet they created community, met in joy and song, broke bread, cared for one another, and shared the delight of God's continuing presence with them.

We've been doing that, too, in worship, in our monthly fellowship brunches, and in our Outreach ministry. This helps us maintain our sense of being Trinity Church, uprooted, yet still Walking the Way.

Next Sunday (May 11), on Mother's Day, we will have our Second Sunday donation. See below for all the particulars, but this is the convergence of a secular (though deeply spiritual for some) holiday with the needs of mothers and babies. Let's keep up our momentum in these wonderful Outreach efforts to be the church and offer mutual aid to those in need—this time, the most vulnerable in our midst. Let us arise to the moment, and be the Resurrected Body of Christ!

Blessings,

Pam+

And now, just for fun . . .

Sometimes you search for one thing, and find so much more! If you have eclectic musical tastes, click and enjoy for a half hour.

Some background: Sunday we will sing a hymn that is new (to you). It's in our Episcopal hymnal, and I've sung it in every Episcopal church I've worked in, except for Trinity. So . . . it's time we learned it.

Come away to the skies is in the Easter hymn section. Since it is relatively unfamiliar I thought it might be helpful to offer a link to listen to it. What I stumbled upon on the google machine was Come Away to the Skies: A High, Lonesome Mass, by Tim Sharp, past-Executive Director of American Choral Directors Association, and the highly-respected composer and arranger Wes Ramsay. It is a choral mass based loosely on several traditional Southern hymns. Performed here in 2023 by the Atlanta Master Choral, it combines a classical choral approach with blue-grass accompaniment by the Chuck Nation Band.

It's just beautiful. And fun. Reminiscent and creative. I hope you enjoy it!
