Tier 1 Secondary Content Area Reading Strategies: Text Summarization

Formerly Michigan's Integrated Behavior and Learning Support Initiative (MIBLSI)

This session will introduce content area teachers to text summarization as a strategy to support student understanding of the content. During the session, teachers will develop an example and non-example of a summary using a writing frame for initial teaching as well as develop a plan for initial and on-going use of the text summarization writing frame. Finally, participants will outline for the principal and School Leadership Team recommendations for using the strategy within their core subject area.

Please bring a student textbook used in the core subject you teach. If you do not use a textbook, some type of reading material students are asked to read and will be able to summarize

Event Cancellation : MIBLSI may cancel any training that does not have at least 10 people registered. In this case, MIBLSI would refund the registration fee, if any, to the participant or his/her employer.
