WE WANT YOUR FEEDBACK!
Over the past six years the "A Step aHead" program has been focused on educating the Illinois Youth Hockey community about concussion awareness and treatment. The four organizations that make up "A Step aHead", the Chicago Blackhawks, AHAI, Athletico, and NorthShore University HealthSystem, would like to offer a free seminar on a broader range of health and safety topics, as well as other issues important to youth hockey. We would very much like to know about the specific needs of players, coaches, parents and others involved in youth hockey. Please complete this very brief survey so we can tailor the meeting to these needs. Additional information, including date, location and presenters will be announced when available.

ASK THE OFFICIAL
QUESTION: A player picked the puck up on his stick and skated down the rink carrying it on his stick. The ref told him he could not do this. I can't find anything that says he can't carry the puck on his stick down the rink.  ANSWER>>

QUESTION: Goalie covers the puck however the ref does not blow the whistle. Can you keep going after the puck? What if you can see part of the puck from under the glove? What if it's fully covered? My understanding is the play does not stop until the ref blows the whistle. Isn't the ref, using his whistle, the one who decides what is covered and what's not?  ANSWER>>

EVANSTON HOCKEY CELEBRATES...AFTER 50 YEARS, IT'S STILL ALL ABOUT HOCKEY
By Alby Gallun ~ When Dean Mathewson had hockey practice, he'd walk around the corner from his house in southwest Evanston to his home rink in Larimer Park. Fashion accessories for his team included garter belts and awkward mouth protectors that made players look like young Hannibal Lecters in training. And if Mathewson wanted a curve on his wooden stick, he often had to make it himself, heating the blade up in boiling water and then bending it between the pipes of a radiator. READ MORE>>
