A Tiered Approach to Trauma-Informed Practices: A Systems Approach

With an increase in awareness of trauma and its impact on individuals and communities, trauma-informed approaches have become increasingly popular. A cornerstone of this approach is to develop a trauma-informed lens for everyone that looks to prevent challenges such as re-traumatization and misunderstanding of behavioral challenges as defiance.

A tiered approach to trauma informed practices extends this approach to ensure that trauma-related needs are met across the full continuum of needs, from universal supports that everyone can benefit from (tier 1) to advanced, therapeutic supports (tier 2 & 3) for those that have more intensive and individualized needs. This training will highlight how we can create multi-tiered systems of support (MTSS) that are trauma-informed to better meet trauma related needs, from prevention to intervention.
