TRMC'S NEW TOWER FOR ER, PATIENTS
NEW HEALTH SYSTEM NAME UNVEILED AT GROUNDBREAKING
|
|
Tift Regional Medical Center
(TRMC) on
Monday
broke ground for a
$152 million
expansion
and to unveil
Southwell
as the new
name
for its overall
healthcare system
.
TRMC
will expand with a
four-story tower
on
18th Street
to include a
new emergency
center
and
inpatient units
.
Christopher Dorman
, president/CEO, also
announced
that
TRMC, Cook Medical Center
and the system’s
25 physician practices
will now be
linked
together with the brand name
Southwell
.
“We recently
restructured
as a
non-for-profit
entity in order to
grow
our
services
and
expand
our geographic
footprint
. We are already
providing care
in several other
communities
outside
Tift County
," said
Dorman
.
"We wanted to create a
system name
that can be
appreciated everywhere
we establish services. Over the coming months and years, we will
implement
the new
Southwell logo
and corporate identity standards at our various facilities. ... We remain a
locally operated
healthcare institution dedicated to providing exceptional care.”
Dorman
stressed that
TRMC
has
not
been
acquired
by anyone.
|
|
“We just have a
new system name
to
connect
all our
services
together,” he said. “
Tift Regional Medical Center
will
remain
Tift Regional Medical Center, but it is now an important hub of the
Southwell family
of services.”
Jimmy Allen
, chairman of the
Southwell Board of Directors
, said the
tower
expansion at
TRMC
is important in meeting the
growing medical needs
of the region.
“The
first floor
of the new tower will be our
new emergency center
,”
Allen
said. “Our
current ER
was originally
designed
to accommodate about
20,000 patients
per year; we
currently
see close to
50,000 patients
per year. That is how fast we are growing.”
The
entire tower
will cover approximately
263,000 square feet
. To accommodate the expansion and new parking areas,
TRMC
worked with the
City of Tifton
to
close part
of
18th Street
and to
reroute
a
portion
of
John Orr Drive
.
