CITY STREET, WATER
IMPROVEMENTS
UNDERWAY
Work has begun to improve several more streets in the City of Tifton , beginning with the replacement of deteriorating water lines and resurfacing of Chesnutt Avenue .

Chesnutt will be resurfaced between Fourth and Eighth streets after the water lines are replaced . Currently , the street has galvanized lines more than 40 years old that have had numerous leaks in recent years. One of the blocks on Chesnutt has a 1.25-inch water line and other blocks have 2-inch lines.

The lines are being replaced with 6-inch water lines , says City Manager Pete Pyrzenski.

Based on a recommendation from city public works contractor ESG Inc. , Tifton City Council approved the list of street resurfacing projects for 2019 ; in May , council OK'd the low bid of $573,870 from Reeves Construction Co. for the projects.

Among the streets to be resurfaced are portions of Forrest Avenue, John Howard Way outside the U.S. Post Office, Wilson Avenue, Belmont Avenue, Crescent Drive, Twila Drive, Pehler Drive, 22nd Street, Branch Street, Old Omega Road, Lakewood Drive, and Brookhaven Drive.

The city is receiving $241,184 this year in Local Maintenance & Improvement Grant (LMIG) funds for road work from the Ga. Department of Transportation . The city will cover the remaining costs of the project.
