In-Person Worship and the Omicron Variant

With covid cases increasing due to the omicron variant, Washington County has returned to the red/very high risk level at CovidActNow.com. According to our current Reopening Plan we will continue to have in-person worship at this risk level, but will limit capacity to 60 people and will strictly enforce mask wearing. There will continue to be no congregational singing. If Washington County enters the extreme/maroon risk level, we will return to online worship only.

Remember, if you have any hesitation to attend in-person worship, you can always participate by watching the live-stream at the TUMC YouTube channel.
Worship with Tigard UMC on Sunday, January 2, 2022 at 10 a.m.
This Sunday, January 2, we mark Epiphany. We will hear the prophet Isaiah's soaring words, "Arise, shine, for your light has come!" and we will hear the story of the Magi whose arrival in Jerusalem by star light caused consternation and fear among the powerful. This week, Pastor Jeremy has been reflecting on the life and witness of Archbishop Desmond Tutu who died at the age of 90 last Sunday. Desmond Tutu burned brightly with the light of God's love and justice, and that light was both disruptive to powerful people and electrifying and hopeful to many ordinary people. Archbishop Tutu's life reveals much about what it means to live faithfully as a Christian. Pastor Jeremy will share the impact of Archbishop Tutu on him in a message called, "The Disruptive Light of God."
This Sunday, Sandy will be at the piano, Pam will be our vocalist, and Bob Bell will read scripture. Rev. Jeff Lowery, our new staff member, will join us for worship, too! We hope you can join us for a wonderful time of worship, whether in-person or online!
We will be celebrating Communion this Sunday. For those worshiping at home who wish to participate, you will need to have on hand bread or crackers, plus juice or wine -- enough for each person.
A New Website for Tigard UMC

Tigard UMC has a new web site! It can be found at the same address as before (www.TigardUMC.com). Our hope is that the new site will be streamlined, simpler, easier to navigate, and also easier for our staff to keep up-to-date. Please be patient as we work out the inevitable glitches that will arise, particularly with the calendars system which is new to us. Note that you should be able to watch our Sunday livestream at the new church website, which will eliminate the ads and other "noise" that clutters YouTube.
Let us pray

  • For our state, nation and the world as the omicron variant continues to surge;
  • Prayers of gratitude for the life and witness of Archbishop Desmond Tutu;
  • For Rick Beadnell, recuperating from treatment for cardiac issues;
  • For Marilyn and Margie (health concerns);
  • For Pastor Jeremy as he receives a second round of chemotherapy Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday next week (updates at Jeremy's blog);
  • Continued prayers for Penny Hodge (health concern);
  • For all the helpers -- in refugee camps, in hospitals, in conflict zones, and where disasters have hit;
  • For strength and perseverance to all health care workers;
  • For Joe Jebbia, receiving hospice care, and his wife, Lois.
