Sunday morning, January 21 at 9:30 a.m.
In-Person and Online
This coming Sunday Pastor Jeremy is starting part 2 of the worship series from last fall called "I've Always Wondered..." Over three Sundays he will respond to questions asked by TUMC members and friends. Like last fall, these are BIG questions! This Sunday, we take up a fundamental question that humans have pondered for eons. Why are we even here? What is the point of our existence? Philosophers and theologians have come at this question from a variety of angles. Pastor Jeremy will look to the gospel of Mark for guidance from Jesus, whose teaching and example illuminate a faithful Christian response to this question. As is so often the case with Jesus, it is deceptively simple and, at the same time, wonderfully challenging.

Anonymous Paddle Raise Supports the Celebration Fundraiser
Double Match Opportunity!
This week, one Paddle Raise donor will be the recipient of homemade cookies compliments of the TUMC Finance Chairperson, Samantha Harmon!
| |
A paddle raise is a way to support the Celebration Fundraiser with a generous donation whether you attend the event or not. At a benefit auction, a paddle raise is when different levels of donations are announced – like $25, then $50, then $100, and so on – and people raise their bidder number (their “paddle”) to indicate what amount they’d like to give. Instead of doing this in-person at the Celebration Fundraiser, we’re doing it before the event and we’re doing it anonymously.
Thanks to generous donors, there will be a 2-1 match on paddle raise donations up to $5,000. This means that a $100 paddle raise donation will receive a $200 match for a total of $300!

Peg was the spouse of the Rev. Lee Hunefeld, pastor of Tigard UMC from 2007-2014. Peg was very active at Tigard UMC from 2017-2021, particularly on the Water's Edge Worship planning team and as a volunteer at Bethlehem House of Bread. Peg officially retired from ministry in 2022. She served as the Cascadia District Superintendent from 2012-2016 and as pastor in several United Methodist churches since 1997. She was known and loved by many in the Oregon-Idaho Annual Conference and beyond.

Let us pray...
- For those who have been hit hard by the recent blast of frigid, icy weather - particularly the unhoused and other vulnerable people;
- For the emergency responders, warming shelter volunteers, and other people helping people in need or crisis;
- For Rev. Lee Hunefeld and all of the friends and family of Lee's wife, Rev. Peg Lofsvold. Peg died on Wednesday, January 10. A memorial service for Peg will be held on Friday, March 1 at 1 p.m. at Lake Oswego UMC.
- For two dear friends in Renee Kim's life who both have upcoming surgeries for cancer;
- For Mary Bell (health concern);
- For unhoused people during the cold, icy winter months;
- For Penny Hodge's daughter, Whitney (health concern);
- For the people who live in conflict zones around the world, especially in Israel and the Gaza Strip.
