Tiger News
Happy Friday,

It was another great week at Christ the King Catholic School!

Congratulations to our 2nd graders for accomplishing their First Reconciliation this week!

I hope you have been able to join us in our Advent reflections. It has been a great way to prepare for Christmas. Father Todd and some of his fellow priests are also helping us prepare by offering time for our 3rd - 8th graders to go to confession.

On Thursday, our 6th and 7th graders participated in a special presentation, led by Butler University students in collaboration with the Joseph Maley Foundation, about identifying and coping with anxiety. It was great information for our students to hear. I think it was a good first step in letting our students know it is okay to discuss this issue and ask for help. I look forward to providing more information and strategies on dealing with anxiety and stress in the form of speakers, activities, and books in the months to come. Please check out a special edition of the 180 Days of Learning Blog that includes a link to the PowerPoint from one of the presentations and some additional links to helpful information.

I am looking forward to next week's Christmas Program. I can hear their practices from my office, and they are sounding good! See you there.

Thank you to everyone who has turned in a fleece blanket. Please keep them coming! Check out the Service Opportunity section below for more details. The last day to turn them in is next Friday.

Have a great weekend! I hope you are able to spend lots of time with your loved ones!

Peace,

Ed Seib

Hot Lunch NEW
There are still a few openings for volunteers to serve hot lunch. Remember, this is a fundraiser for the PTO and as all parents are members of our organization, you are all requested to help with at least one lunch a year. There are also class lunches-please just sign up for a class in which you have children. The requirements are just 2 hours or so on a Wednesday or Friday. Please click the link below to sign up.

***If you sign up but are unable to come, you are responsible for finding a substitute. Please do not just delete your sign up.

Please make payments for the second ordering period as soon as possible. If you need to set up a payment plan, please send a note to  ckshotlunch@gmail.com

THANK YOU to all of our volunteers and parents who placed orders on time and made payments!
Giving Tree Collections
The Giving Tree project is supporting 70 families this year. We would like to have each classroom purchase the assigned items — and then bring all the items together for a prayer service on Friday, December 14th in Tuohy Hall at 8:30 am.
We would like:
Kindergarten to purchase 140 cans of mushroom soup (10.50 oz) - 4 per child
1st grade to purchase 140 cans of green beans (14.5 oz) - 5 per child
2nd grade to purchase 70 boxes of jello/pudding or bag of dessert mix (no eggs needed) - 3 per child
3rd grade to purchase 70 cans of cranberry sauce (16 oz) - 3 per child
4th grade to purchase 70 cans of fried onions (6 oz) - 2 per child
5th grade to purchase 140 cans of corn (around 15.25 oz) - 3 per child
6th grade to purchase 70 boxes of instant stuffing (12 oz) - 3 per child
7th grade to purchase 140 cans of turkey or chicken gravy (10.50 oz No Glass Please) - 3 per child
8th grade to purchase 70 boxes of instant potatoes (13 oz) - 2 per child (then you would need 2 more)

Please keep these items in your room until the prayer service. We will all gather in Tuohy Hall and have a short prayer service – in which 8th graders will be first to put items in the bags and will stay by the bags to help the younger children put the right amounts in each bag.

Based on your number of students you may end up collecting more than is assigned but rest assured that the food will go to a place where it is much needed.

Mindset Minute
Growth Mindset and Mental Health
Clinical psychology researchers Jessica Schleider, Madelaine Abel, and John Weisz performed a  very thorough review of 17 studies involving over 6,500 students  and found that a fixed mindset was associated with more mental health problems in teenagers. When compared to their peers with a growth mindset, fixed mindset youth were 58% more likely to show more severe symptoms of anxiety, depression, or aggression.

If you need a refresher, check out this link Moving forward, all of the Mindset Minutes for the year will be added to this link, so you can check them out anytime.
PTO News NEW
The PTO is grateful for the amazing volunteers and activity chairs who lead events and raise funds in support of our teachers, students and community. We have a few key open positions at this time. If you have ever thought about getting more involved, now is your chance! We are looking for a Co-Chair for Movie Nights, another parent/family to join the Kramers in planning the Tiger Trot, and a Co-Chair for the last-day-of-school ice cream social. If you are interested in joining the PTO by volunteering in one of these ways, please contact Natalie Sutton, PTO Vice President at  nataliemsutton@hotmail.com .

Box Top$
The school earned $267.00 for the past 3 month period. This number could easily be increased by a little extra clipping from each family. Challenge your children to ask family members, neighbors, and friends to help them collect Box Tops and Tyson Labels for Education to help out their school.

This month there are hundreds of products featured that have Box Tops on them. Please click on the link below to see all the products available:

So as we approach the holiday season, keep your eyes out for eligible products and clip away for one of CKS's easiest fundraisers.

Thank you and Happy clipping!
