Tiger News
Happy Friday,

Congratulations to everyone on making through the first week back from break. Re-establishing routines is never easy. It was great to walk the halls and see the teachers and students get back to embracing challenges!

While the word protectors is no longer in our theme, it is definitely embedded in words and actions of our students. A great example of this is in the section just below my note. 6th grader, Landry Priser, contacted me to ask if we could recognize and support Tyler Trent. Check out the letter from Landry for more information.

Our Open House is coming up. Check out the Marketing Minute to see how you can help spread the word about how we are "Growing Innovative Leaders Guided by Catholic Values".

Have a great weekend. I hope everyone enjoys the snow and is able to spend lots of time together! Last but not least, GO COLTS!

Tyler Trent Day at CKS Next Thursday
"Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus."

These are the words of Tyler Trent. I’m sure many of you have heard of Tyler Trent. I’m also sure many of you haven’t. Tyler Trent was a Purdue super fan who had osteosarcoma, a type of bone cancer, but that didn’t stop him from doing what he loved, cheering on the Boilermakers. This season Tyler was Purdue’s honorary captain for the football team. Tyler had cancer 3 different times; he won two times and the third time fell short. He sadly passed away January 1, 2019. Even though he has passed he still inspires not only Boilermaker fans but millions.
Even though Tyler had cancer himself he wanted to still help others, so Tyler partnered up with the Jimmy V foundation and Riley’s Children’s Hospital to raise money for pediatric cancer research. So far he has raised over $500,000 but his goal is $1,000,000 and I would like to raise towards that amount, so he can get closer to his goal. So, next Thursday, January 17th, students will be allowed to bring in a free will offering for Tyler’s Charity to raise money for Pediatric Cancer research. If you do, in fact, bring a donation you will be able to wear either black and gold or any Purdue gear to support Tyler. All money raised will be matched dollar for dollar! Thank you in advance for all of your support.

eLearning Day Reminder
We are planning on having an eLearning Day on Friday, February 15th instead of making that day up for the day we missed before Thanksgiving. Below are a few important things to know.

1) Students will have 2 additional school days after the eLearning day to make up assignments.
2) All assignments will be a review of concepts that have already been taught.
3) Kindergarten - 5th grade teachers will email you a list of assignments by 8:00 am the morning of an eLearning Day. Middle School Teachers will have assignments posted to their Google Classroom pages by 8:00 a.m.
4) Teachers will be available through email to answer questions from 8:00-1:00.
5) The majority of activities will require internet access and may use IXL. The computer lab will be available after school for two days after the eLearning Day for students who were unable to access the internet to complete their assigned tasks.
Thank You
  • Father Todd, the 6th grade, Mr. Klee and Ms. Aragon for Mass on Wednesday.
  • The PTO and School Commission members for sacrificing an evening with their families to meet this week to discuss how to support and promote the school!
  • Everyone who served hot lunch, helped out in a classroom, ran an after school club, coached, or opened car doors this week.

Marketing Minute Updated
Our marketing research has shown our strong school community has formed because CKS parents share their unique experiences with friends and family and encourage them to become a part of it. There’s no better way to help than by pulling together to promote our Winter Open House Sunday, January 27th from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM.
Here are a few small things you can do that will have a huge impact.

1) Volunteer at our upcoming Open House to be a tour guide who shares parental perspective with potential families as a 7th or 8th grade student gives a tour. RSVP below.

2) Send a copy of Winter Open House Flyer to ALL of your family and friends or direct them to our Open House Webpage . If they mention your name at Open House registration, you could win a $100 Scrip gift card!
(Gift card to be presented to parent or parishioner with the most referrals. Winner will be drawn at random in the event of a referral tie.)

3) Yard Signs Will Be Ready Monday! Place Open House yard signs in well-traveled areas in the community and//or your yard! Yard signs will be passed out Monday at student pick-up. Signs will also be available at Masses this weekend or can be picked up from the school office, church office, or After Care.
4) Follow us on Social Media. Like, share, and comment on posts on Facebook, The 180 Days of Learning Blog, Twitter, and Instagram.

5) Post a positive comment on the Great Schools website ( www.greatschools.org ) .
Open House Volunteers Needed Sign Up Today
Our Winter Open House will be Sunday, January 27, 2019, from 11:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. We will need volunteers to help set up, give tours, provide and serve refreshments, and babysit.  Sign up to volunteer today. Thank you for helping us promote our Family Friendly Community!
Volunteer Appreciation Breakfast New
Our parents and volunteers play a vital role in the success of our school on a daily basis. The examples are plenty from opening doors at drop off, serving hot lunch, helping out in the classroom, being a room parent, running an after school club, coaching, etc.

We are humbled by your active support. As a token of our appreciation, you are invited to the first annual Volunteer Appreciation Mass and Breakfast on January 30th.

We will be recognizing all of our volunteers at our 8:30 am Mass with breakfast to follow until 11:00. You are invited to come to any part of the celebration. Please click here to RSVP by Friday, January 25th.
CYO Sports Registration Change New
Starting February 1st, we will be switching to a new registration site for CYO sports. The new site will allow us to keep track of the players and teams better, and most importantly, it will allow each coach to have a team page and post practices, notices, and rosters. The sports committee is excited for all the new features this site will allow us. One big change will be that you will have to pay when you register. This will streamline the process for the sports committee and alleviate having to remind people to pay.

Spring sport registration (softball, baseball, track, co-ed soccer) is due February 20th, so please use the new site to register once it is live. We have added co-ed soccer as a new sport this year. If you have already registered for any of these sports, that is fine. You don’t need to do anything. If you haven’t paid for these sports but already registered, then please use the regular method through the parish giving site.

After February 1st, you will no longer register through the orgsonline site to register for sports.  If you have any questions about the new registration please email  jennifer@woodthompson.com . For general sports questions, please email  brant.yeskie@4086.com

Safe and Sacred Reminder for all Volunteers
The Archdiocese has asked us to make sure that all adults who volunteer in the school (for field trips, playground duty, etc.) are trained and certified in Safe and Sacred. With field trips coming up soon, we wanted to remind anyone of this training.

If you have not done Safe and Sacred training, you can find it on the Archdiocese of Indianapolis website (or, click here -   https://safeandsacred-archindy.org/login/index.php ) You will need to either log in or create a new account, then watch the videos and answer the questions that go along with them. There is also a background check portion that you will be prompted to complete.

This process (especially the background check part) can take up to two weeks to be completed, so please start this training early!
Handwriting Enrichment Starts Next Week
Sensory Advantage is excited to partner with Christ the King to offer our innovative Therapeutic Enrichment groups as part of their before and after school programming. These groups promote targeted skill development and improved attention to support optimal classroom performance.

There is more to handwriting than just holding a pencil.
Learning to write is a complex task that involves the integration of multiple systems. This group will introduce students to the Handwriting Hero Rules, an easy to understand and motivating framework that facilitates improved writing legibility. Participants will also build hand strength, fine motor coordination, and visual motor control through play with a variety of manipulatives and participation in multi-sensory arts and craft projects.

Offered to students grades K-4
Group Leaders: Joylynn Holladay, MS, OTR/L and/or Kate Loughran, MS, OTR/L
