Tiger News
Happy Friday!

It has been another great week at Christ the King Catholic School!

We are looking forward to sharing our faith filled, Family Friendly, Four Star school with the Parish and community at our Winter Open House this Sunday! Thank you for all you have done to promote the Open House!

Winter is upon us and that means flu season. It is crucial that you err on the side of keeping your child home if they are feeling sick. Click here for more information regarding symptoms, how long you are contagious, prevention, and care.

Winter can also lead to drop off and pick up changes and delays. In the mornings, please only drop off your child/children in the drop off line. Do not park in the lot and have them walk across or drop in between the church and Tuohy Hall. This creates a safety risk and would be unsustainable if everyone did it. Finally, be on the lookout for daily updates regarding our cold weather dismissal pick up.

Have a great weekend. I hope you are able to stay warm and spend lots of time with your loved ones!

Marketing Minute
Our marketing research has shown our strong school community has formed because CKS parents share their unique experiences with friends and family and encourage them to become a part of it. There’s no better way to help than by pulling together to promote our Winter Open House Sunday, January 27th from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM.
Here are a few small things you can do that will have a huge impact.

1) Volunteer at our upcoming Open House to be a tour guide who shares parental perspective with potential families as a 7th or 8th grade student gives a tour. Click here to do so.

2) Send a copy of Winter Open House Flyer to ALL of your family and friends or direct them to our Open House Webpage . If they mention your name at Open House registration, you could win a $100 Scrip gift card!
(Gift card to be presented to parent or parishioner with the most referrals. Winner will be drawn at random in the event of a referral tie.)

3) Place Open House yard signs in well-traveled areas in the community and//or your yard! Yard signs were passed out Monday at student pick-up. Signs are also be available at Masses this weekend or can be picked up from the school office, church office, or After Care. Please return these to the main office, so we can reuse these.
4) Follow us on Social Media. Like, share, and comment on posts on Facebook, The 180 Days of Learning Blog, Twitter, and Instagram.

5) Post a positive comment on the Great Schools website ( www.greatschools.org ) .
Volunteer Appreciation Breakfast RSVP by Today!
Our parents and volunteers play a vital role in the success of our school on a daily basis. The examples are plenty from opening doors at drop off, serving hot lunch, helping out in the classroom, being a room parent, running an after school club, coaching, etc.

We are humbled by your active support. As a token of our appreciation, you are invited to the first annual Volunteer Appreciation Mass and Breakfast on January 30th.

We will be recognizing all of our volunteers at our 8:30 am Mass with breakfast to follow until 11:00. You are invited to come to any part of the celebration. Please click here to RSVP by Friday, January 25th.
eLearning Day Reminder
We are planning on having an eLearning Day on Friday, February 15th instead of making that day up for the day we missed before Thanksgiving. Below are a few important things to know.

1) Students will have 2 additional school days after the eLearning day to make up assignments.
2) All assignments will be a review of concepts that have already been taught.
3) Kindergarten - 5th grade teachers will email you a list of assignments by 8:00 am the morning of an eLearning Day. Middle School Teachers will have assignments posted to their Google Classroom pages by 8:00 a.m.
4) Teachers will be available through email to answer questions from 8:00-1:00.
5) The majority of activities will require internet access and may use IXL. The computer lab will be available after school for two days after the eLearning Day for students who were unable to access the internet to complete their assigned tasks.

CYO Sports Registration Change
Starting February 1st, we will be switching to a new registration site for CYO sports. The new site will allow us to keep track of the players and teams better, and most importantly, it will allow each coach to have a team page and post practices, notices, and rosters. The sports committee is excited for all the new features this site will allow us. One big change will be that you will have to pay when you register. This will streamline the process for the sports committee and alleviate having to remind people to pay.

Spring sport registration (softball, baseball, track, co-ed soccer) is due February 20th, so please use the new site to register once it is live. We have added co-ed soccer as a new sport this year. If you have already registered for any of these sports, that is fine. You don’t need to do anything. If you haven’t paid for these sports but already registered, then please use the regular method through the parish giving site.

After February 1st, you will no longer register through the orgsonline site to register for sports.  If you have any questions about the new registration please email  jennifer@woodthompson.com . For general sports questions, please email  brant.yeskie@4086.com
Mindset Minute New
Check out this great video that animates the words of Dr. Carol Dweck, the developer of Growth Mindset.

Safe and Sacred Reminder for all Volunteers
The Archdiocese has asked us to make sure that all adults who volunteer in the school (for field trips, playground duty, etc.) are trained and certified in Safe and Sacred. With field trips coming up soon, we wanted to remind anyone of this training.

If you have not done Safe and Sacred training, you can find it on the Archdiocese of Indianapolis website (or, click here -   https://safeandsacred-archindy.org/login/index.php ) You will need to either log in or create a new account, then watch the videos and answer the questions that go along with them. There is also a background check portion that you will be prompted to complete.

This process (especially the background check part) can take up to two weeks to be completed, so please start this training early!

Box Tops for Education - A Dime Every Time!
Thank you to those of you who continue to clip and turn in Box Tops for Education and Tyson Labels for Education. Please continue to clip away! Remember this is a great PTO fundraiser that benefits our school, is easy to participate in, and allows for a fun little competition between classes to track who can turn in the most labels. We only collect labels 2x per year and our  next collection deadline will be 02/28/19.

You and your children can help with this fun fundraiser by asking family members, neighbors, friends, co-workers, etc to assist you in saving the labels for our school.

Remember each  Box top label = a dime
and each  Tyson label = a quarter

There are collection containers located in the school lobby, the church vestibule, or the labels can be sent in via your child's classroom teacher. If you could please check expiration dates, and group together in increments of 50. Don't forget to label your child's classroom on the bag.
We really need your help with this event. Collection numbers have been lower than usual. So please keep your eyes open for the box tops and labels, stock up when items are on sale, and clip away. Thank you for your assistance!
