Happy Last Day of School!

What a great year!

Congratulations to the Class of 2019! It was an honor and a privilege to celebrate with them on Wednesday. I look forward to hearing about how they will continue to be protectors! Thank you 8th grade parents for your commitment to Christ the King. Also, thank you to Amy Bultink and the 7th grade families for planning and implementing an amazing graduation dinner.

Congratulations to our incoming Student Council Executive team. I am looking forward to collaborating with you next year.

Finally, thank you parents for your support of the school this year. Christ the King is a special community because all of us collaborate to truly grow innovative leaders guided by Catholic values. Have a wonderful summer with your children.

Several teachers will be available to provide tutoring free of charge through Title I Funding. If you are interested, please fill out this form, and I will send you the sign up schedule.

Staff Updates New
Melissa Grimes
Mrs. Grimes, our social worker for four years, has accepted a promotion and will be taking on a new challenge as Assistant Director of Social Workers for the Archdiocese. Congratulations Mrs. Grimes! Mrs. Grimes has been a great protector for our students, parents, and staff. She has provided all of us with advice and support and her impact will be felt for years to come. I appreciate the advice and expertise she has given me through the years. The school has lost a great advocate for our students, and she will be missed. Here is a letter she composed to the community.

Mrs. Gibson
Mrs. Gibson will be transitioning from her role as a teacher to take care of her family. While she has only been here for one year, her impact has been enormous. Her skill with turning student data into individualized goals is matched by her compassion and empathy. She has made the staff and I better. It was amazing to walk in her room and see her encourage and challenge every one of her students as they were engaged in a project of their own creation. She has been a humble protector and role model for all of us. Next year, she will continue to be a protector of CKS by returning periodically to support and enhance the staff’s use of data and rubrics to drive instruction.

Mrs. Huffine
Our beloved Mrs. Huffine will be retiring from her day to day positions as ACE Coordinator to care for her husband Brian. Brian and Cheryl continue to fight his cancer diagnosis and your prayers are much appreciated. Mrs. Huffine has been a PROTECTOR here at CKS since the Fall of 2013. She has advocated for all of our students! She has supported and challenged students who have different learning needs, brought disAbility Awareness Week to the school, and coordinated the National Junior Honor Society to name just a few of the ways she has transformed our school. Mrs. Huffine will support us when she can next year in an advisory role, which makes it a little easier to say goodbye. Mrs. Huffine has truly changed lives through her work here, and I look forward to continuing to learn from her.

Mentor Families  Still Needed
We are seeking current CKS families who are willing to mentor incoming families to our school this upcoming school year. New families will be met with many new faces and much information along the way. Mentor families help to familiarize these new families with the school and its procedures, and serve as a liaison between the school, the parish, and new families. If you and your family would like to support this ministry, we ask that you review the notes in the link below to understand what is asked of you to ensure each new family feels welcome and supported.

If you and your family are interested in serving as part of this important ministry, please email Mrs. Andie Silvey at  asilvey@cks-indy.org If you have been a menor family in the past, we still ask you to let us know if you want to do this each year.

Calling Bakers of all ages

I am sending this email to recruit more help for the annual Summer Social. I am in charge of the Sweet Shop. Over the years, we have gotten homemade goodies through the parish service league and thought that, this year, I would invite the school families to help as well. Our booth is 100% profit for the school and parish, since the sweets are donated. We are looking for cookies, brownies, cakes, pies, or whatever sweets you are willing to donate.
This year the Summer Social is on Friday, June 21st and Saturday, the 22nd. There is a sign up genius in place if you would like to sign up that way, however you can just drop things off at Touhy Hall on June 21st without registering. You can ask for me or Dave and Katie Thompson and we will get your delicious sweets to where they need to go!
As always, Christ the King is a wonderful Parish and we appreciate your consideration and all your help!
