Building a Foundation for the Future
|
|
Dear Putnam Valley Community,
A sneak peek of Putnam Valley Elementary School’s performance of “Willy Wonka” instantly brightened my spirits. This event marked the first of many performances that will highlight the talented Putnam Valley staff and students that make these productions possible. This event also marked the unofficial return of live audiences, as we welcome friends and families back into our buildings. There are upcoming productions at both Putnam Valley Middle School and Putnam Valley High School that will be well worth the price of admission.
Putnam Valley Middle School: High School Musical
- April 22, 7pm at Putnam Valley Middle School
- April 23, 7pm at Putnam Valley Middle School
Putnam Valley High School: In The Heights
- April 29, 7pm at Putnam Valley High School PAC
- April 30, 7pm at Putnam Valley High School PAC
- May 1, 2pm at Putnam Valley High School PAC
Keeping with the spirit of talented students, I continue to be impressed by the number of Putnam Valley students whose work has been featured and/or is currently displayed in art shows across the region. The work produced by Putnam Valley students is not only impressive, but inspiring. Please consider taking some time to view some of the amazing work of our own Putnam Valley students.
There is much to celebrate here in Putnam Valley; as the warmer weather sets in, the time is right to attend a sporting event, musical performance, or a school production. Student talents are on display all over our campuses, and our buildings are open and ready to welcome you back inside. Come check it out!

Get ready to be wowed by our Middle School Talent!
|
|
We are so excited to watch our PVMS stars take the stage to bring Disney's High School Musical to Putnam Valley. The Putnam Valley Middle School players present Disney's High School Musical on April 22 and 23rd. The cast consists of about 30 each night, and the crew is about 16 students, all ranging from grades 5-8. High School Musical tells the story of two high school juniors from rival stereotypical cliques. The protagonists are Troy Bolton, a basketball team captain, and Gabriella Montez, a shy transfer student excelling in math and science.Together, they try out for the lead parts in their high school musical, and this causes division among all the school's students. Despite other students' attempts to thwart their dreams, Troy and Gabriella aim to resist peer pressure and rivalry and wish to inspire others along the way not to "stick to the status quo." However, they have to battle high school diva Sharpay Evans and her twin brother Ryan. Sharpay and Ryan both seek to sabotage the friendship and romance between Troy and Gabriella and gain the leads in the school musical. The show promises to be fun for all! PVHS IB Spanish Reflects on Crisis in Ukraine
Through Study of Picasso
|
|
Making Real World Connections through Art in the Classroom
|
In March, Mr. Paul Pearson's IB Spanish students used an artist study as an opportunity to process reflections on the war in Ukraine. While studying Spanish artist Pablo Picasso, the students were invited to create a piece of artwork using Picasso's style. As a result, they prepared a piece that represented what they have learned about the war thus far, channeling the abstract. Learn more about the lesson and how this graphic came together here.

We encounter the many colorful residents of Washington Heights -- a New York City neighborhood on the brink of change. Usnavi, a first-generation Dominican-American corner bodega owner, and his friends and family are dealing with the pressures of rising rents and closing neighborhood businesses. As one family struggles to figure out how to pay for an Ivy League tuition for their brilliant and hard-working daughter, a young woman is trying to put a down payment on a new apartment, and Usnavi himself is trying to get back to the Dominican Republic to reconnect with his roots after the death of his parents. In Washington Heights, community is everything, and we see how each of these individuals struggles to survive and how these same individuals come together as a community to mourn their losses and rejoice in their triumphs. Over the course of the show, we see the hard-working residents of Washington Heights grapple with love and desire, identity and racism, all while the prospect of a winning lottery ticket hangs in the air, potentially changing the livelihoods of the people and the community forever. The musical tells a captivating story about what it means to chase your dreams as you cling to your roots, and to celebrate the community from which you grew.
