Today the Governor announced a change to the quarantine recommendations for people that have been exposed to a positive case of COVID-19.

  • Close contacts of COVID-positive cases will no longer need to quarantine for 14 days if a face covering was consistently worn by both people during the exposure.
  • People currently in quarantine may discontinue that quarantine if both people were wearing a face covering during the time of exposure.
  • Household/residential contacts will still have the 14-day quarantine recommendation.
  • This does NOT change the isolation requirements for people that are actually sick or COVID-positive to isolate from others until: They have had no fever for at least 24 hours (that is one full day of no fever without the use of medicine that reduces fevers) and their other symptoms have improved, AND At least 10 days have passed since their symptoms first appeared OR since they had a positive COVID test if they are asymptomatic.

This change is effective immediately. Any staff and students that are currently quarantining due to exposure in the school setting can return. We do have additional questions that we are seeking answers to and are updating the FAQs to post on the Return to Learn website.
There is incredible hope cultivated when individuals, groups, and organizations across all disciplines purposefully enter into a shared experience in order to learn, grow, and create a flourishing community. We are inviting you to be a part of just such a community-wide effort this October: A Cedar Valley reading of the book How to Be an Antiracist by Ibram X. Kendi.

Dismantling racism is a priority and will not happen without ongoing intention, prioritization, and strategic focus. A collective reading of How to be an Antiracist can help our community by:
  • creating shared vocabulary and definitions around race, racism, and antiracism.
  • growing understanding through the reading and by listening to our Cedar Valley neighbors.
  • building new and stronger connections with Cedar Valley neighbors.
  • forging a collective sense of urgency to work together toward a more just community.

How do you get involved?
A group will meet on Thursday evenings in October (Oct. 1, 8, 15, 22 & 29) via Zoom from 7:00-8:00 p.m. Information below to sign up for the group. Also on Thursday nights there will be Facebook Live discussions of the book with community leaders from 6:30-7:00 pm.

  • Oct. 1: Education leaders from UNI, Hawkeye, Wartburg, Cedar Falls & Waterloo Schools
  • Oct. 8: Law Enforcement – Police chiefs from Cedar Falls, Waterloo & UNI, Black Hawk County Sheriff and County Attorney
  • Oct. 15: Religious leaders from Christian Jewish and Muslim communities, including Pastor Dave
  • Oct. 22: Business leaders from Cedar Valley Grow, John Deere, small business owners, banks
  • Oct. 29: Community leaders – NAACP, Mayor Green, Mayor Hart, students

We encourage you to organize a group, join a group or read the book as an individual or family. Once you organize to read the book:

In a continuous effort to improve student access to technology, the Cedar Falls Community School District is transitioning from the traditional approach of student device repair to student device reassignment. This will be for all PK-12 students districtwide.

Under the past method when a student's Chromebook or iPad needed repair it was turned in, collected by technicians, repaired and documented and then returned to the student. Under the new method of device reassignment, when the student turns in their damaged device, they will be immediately assigned a permanent replacement device by a building representative so they may return to learning with as little disruption as possible. The replacement device will be the same model as the original so chargers and cases will not be required as part of the exchange process.

Devices that are turned in for repair will be documented and repaired by district technicians once they receive them at the District Tech Offices. Any applicable fees for repairs or replacements will be documented in PowerSchool.

For virtual students please be sure to contact the Home Support line at 319-553-3003 or [email protected] to verify that a device replacement is needed. The Home Support Technician will notify your attendance building if a device replacement is necessary.

“I’d like the proceeds to go to the booster club so that I can help future generations succeed in athletics at Cedar Falls High School. Cedar Falls has done so much for me in my athletic career and I know how much it meant to me to have top of the line equipment going through high school so that I could be at my best at all times. I want to help make a positive difference in our community and see these kids continue to succeed. I believe that every little bit helps and the donations that come from the best donut shop in the Cedar Valley and these delicious donuts that we have created together will help go to a greater cause. Go Tigers!!”

HOW CAN YOU HELP ?
Make a donation to the connect>CF Fund. connect>CF is a collaboration between CFU and the district to offer more affordable home internet to students in lower-income households. With many students learning remotely due to the coronavirus pandemic, the need for home internet is even more important than ever. Click here to donate online. More information about this program may be found here.
