I am very pleased to share with our school community that we have enjoyed a fabulous opening to the
2018-2019 school year. Credit for this goes to our industrious students, dedicated teachers, committed staff, and our involved families. Thank you so much!
Last week we announced our Teacher of the Year and Support Person of the Year (see below). Should you happen to see
Mrs. Blanco or
Ms. Zepeda on campus in the coming days, kindly take a moment to congratulate them. This is a major recognition based upon votes from their colleagues and peers. As you can imagine, we are very proud of their success!
Please make sure to mark your calendar for our annual Open House next Thursday, September 6 from 4:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. We are very excited to open the school up to our families and do hope you will make every effort to attend.
Thank you for looking over this latest issue and if you are traveling this Labor Day weekend, please drive safely and remember to buckle up!
Sincerely,
Agathe Alvarez
Proud Principal
Tildenville Elementary School
Pictured very top: Our teachers have initiated a "
Donors Choose" opportunity (please see story below) where community members can go to view various school projects that need support and make a contribution to help that teacher. They are very excited about this system and hope that some of our school community members will participate while we are still early in the new year. Thank you for your consideration!

Teacher Recognition!
A huge shout out to our NEW 4th grade Dual Language Spanish teacher -
Mrs. Morales!
Hi Ms. Morales,
I hope that you have enjoyed the first week of school thus far! I just wanted to send you a quick note of thanks to let you know that Amaiah absolutely loves your class and adores you! This is huge because she was extremely apprehensive about being in your class being that she is not that well versed in Spanish. She was actually very sad after "Meet the Teacher" as she had none of her friends from her previous class in her current class and she was very scared about the language aspect, which of course in turn had me questioning whether or not we had made the right decision for her. Since day 1 she comes home and raves about you and the class. She says that you are so supportive and make sure that she isn't left behind. She is so happy, and that in turn makes me so happy! Thank you so much for caring and supporting her to the best of your ability, it means so much to our family.
Please feel free to reach out to me at anytime, we are here to support you as well. Cheers to a great year!
Thanks!

IMPORTANT P.E. INFORMATION
Preparation
Make sure to know your Tiger's P.E. days so they come prepared and dress appropriately. Proper shoes are a must in order to participate which means they need either laced or velcro sneakers. Water bottles
are allowed. Juice, soda, or other drinks
are not permitted.
One Rule
As far as my classroom rules go - I have only one,
The Golden Rule: Treat others the way you'd like to be treated.
Please Label
We want to encourage parents to label their child's property including jackets, water bottles, lunch boxes, and more. Each year there are a lot of these items left behind with no name on them and many children are not retrieving them. All items left behind will be donated to the local Goodwill at the end of the school year.
Class Dojo
We'd also like to encourage all parents to sign up on Class Dojo for much easier communication and updates on your child. We are going to send home separate notification with information on how to do so if you're not already using this.
Questions
If you have any questions, comments, or concerns at any point during the school year please feel free to contact and speak with me directly. I'll be more than welcome to discuss any issues you may have. I'm generally out on the field with classes during the day, so drop me an email at

Annual Fundraiser
This week had the kick off for our annual fundraiser. The fundraiser runs through September 10th. This year's focus is on random acts of kindness with opportunities to "pay it forward" using the mystery coops.
The fundraiser will assist PTA with providing our students an enriching and exciting year filled with new experiences.
If your child wins 1 of the 6 chrome coops they will be invited to a special lunch with the Mrs. Alvarez.
GAO provides tuition credits for participating students. Every $100 sold earns $1,000 credit and every $250 in sales receives a $2,500 credit.
It gets better! All your child needs to do is sell 2 items, either online or through the catalogues, and they can enter the illusion show. If your child sells 10 items, they will be granted an all-access V.I.P. pass to the show, in addition to all of the prizes.
To access the online store please go to https://www.gaschoolstore.com and the school code is 2512259. Packets are going home this week.
We have three days to turn packets in: August 31st, September 7th, and September 10th. Coop distribution will take place on August 31st and September 7th in the cafeteria during lunch.
PTA appreciates your support and we look forward to a wonderful year!
Best regards,
Tildenville Elementary PTA

Snapshots from across the campus over recent days . . .
Fourth & Fifth Grade STEM
Fourth and fifth grade gifted classes are continuing with the ESO (Elementary Science Olympiad) STEM challenges. Last week they worked on "Energy Lab" where they were give specific items that could be used in the competition to build the best reflector. They understand how a simple wax and foil sandwich can be used as a photometer. The created their reflectors with the available items and built the reflectors.
This week they will find out how effective they are as they measure the distance their reflectors work on a 2 meter course between to 20 watt CFL light sources in a darkened room. The tension builds!

Vital Signs
Daily attendance . . . the #1 leading indicator of student achievement!
Making sense of the chart: The chart illustrates average daily attendance by grade level over the first two weeks of school and through Monday of this week. It compares the same period this school year with last school year and does not include August 21, 2017 when we had the solar eclipse and attendance collapsed. As you can see to the far right, overall attendance is up by two-tenths of a percent rising from 93.9% to 94.1%. That's progress...good job Tigers!
