Tildenville Elementary School Community Brief
Thursday, October 6, 2022
| |
Dear Mark,
I do hope this October edition of The Tiger's Roar! finds you, your family, and your friends faring well after the storm. The impact has been wide and varying throughout the state and here in Central Florida. Some families have had to deal with inconveniences while others have faced catastrophe. Therefore, in this week's issue we have included some information that may prove helpful to your immediate household or to someone you know.
As you probably are already aware, there will be no school for students on Friday, October 7 as teachers across the district finalize quarterly grades. On Wednesday, October 12 we will not have early dismissal as usual in that high school students will be taking SAT exams district-wide.

"Acts of Kindness in Bloom"
Our students created a Kindness Tree during Start with Hello Week last month.

Students in Mrs. Gonzalez's 3rd grade class are wearing their shirts with a positive message for Start with Hello Week!
I realize this has been a difficult period for many families due to Hurricane Ian's direct and indirect effects combined with the impact of rising inflationary prices across the board. Hopefully then you might find this issue both informative and inspiring. Thank you very much for your continued support and please be careful if engaged in any storm aftermath cleanup activity.

Reminder to our Tildenville families on scammers:
Please be aware that scammers may approach you either at home in the way of unlicensed contractors regarding repair work or through phone calls from supposed insurance company claims agents.
Federal Communications Commission (FCC) - "After Storms, Watch Out for Scams"
Tips to avoid Contractor fraud:
| |
-
Be leery of unsolicited calls. Companies should not call you unsolicited requesting personal information or ask you to verify details of your insurance coverage.
-
Do not trust the caller ID. While the name and number may appear to be that of an insurance company, it may be a scam artist attempting to obtain your personal insurance information.
-
Purchase and make changes to your insurance policy through a licensed insurance agent or your insurance company directly. Verify identity before making any payments or providing personal information.

Our Tigers are so talented! Congratulations to Violet Hill for her artwork being selected for the Student Peace Art Exhibit. We are so proud of you!
Hosted by Mayor Demings on Monday, September 19th, the 2022 Global Peace Film Festival Student Exhibition was a major success. There was a fantastic turnout at the awards event and we are so excited to share with you the unveiling of the OCPS Global Peace Festival Student Exhibition bus that was so graciously sponsored by GoPegasus. A big thank you to GoPegasus and the Global Peace Film Festival for making this dream a reality for our students.

Meet the Staff!
Ms. Pankonin
| |
I am Christine Pankonin, the Instructional Coach here at Tildenville Elementary! I worked here for 10 years from 2004-2014 and missed it so much I came back in 2020! I work with the National Honor Society students, Patrols, and I work with teachers to help them provide instruction to all our Tigers. I graduated from Nova (again) in 2010 with two degrees: one in teaching ESOL and one in Ed. Leadership. I have 3 or 4 short years left to retirement and want to spend them working with teachers and students here at Tildenville! I love Orlando Soccer games, live music concerts, and have recently started making things with the Cricut!

Science with Mrs. Khan
Mrs. Khan's gifted class completed their first science lab of the year with a Bubbly Gum Lab! This bubble gum lab was a hit as we took turns chewing brands of gum and comparing the change of mass. Everyone completed the data table and graph and our older students worked through the Scientific Method to reach the conclusion. It was a tasty 😋 and enjoyable lab.

Science with Mrs. McFarlene
Mrs. McFarlane's second grade class did a bubble activity in science last week when we were talking about solids, liquids, and gases😊

Dual Language with Mrs. Blanco
Mrs. Blanco's 3rd grade Dual Language class in action!! They were working on place value in a very fun way!

The garden club is hard to work making our garden beautiful! Thank you to Winter Garden Bloom and Grow for the donation of butterfly plants for the butterfly garden. The students worked hard to plant all the new plants. We have already spotted one caterpillar hanging out in the garden. The kids have named him Tiger! We can't wait to watch him turn into a beautiful butterfly!
Thank you for reading and have a wonderful weekend!
