The Tiger's Roar!
Tildenville Elementary School Community Brief
Tuesday, April 6, 2021
Tildenville Community Member,

Beginning with 3rd grade, our Tigers have now officially entered the 2021 "Testing Season." In this edition we have included important information regarding the administration of the spring tests and some helpful tips.

As a reminder, Wednesday, April 7 is also a big day as it will be a regular length school day due to high school SAT testing countywide and we hope that same evening that our 4th and 5th grade Tigers will get a good night's rest before their FSA Writing exam the following morning.

Thank you so much to those of our parents that invested the time this year to complete our Parent Survey. Once the results are compiled, we can use this information for school improvement so the time spent was most helpful and appreciated!

I am quite confident our Tigers that are engaged in the spring assessments will do very well. Their teachers have worked hard all year to get them prepared and they have done the work. However, please remember that after this week we will pick up with the FSA exams again in May (grades 3-5) so for any student needing extra help, the opportunity is still there right up to the day of the test. We want all of our Tigers to have every possible advantage to show what they have learned.

Enjoy the rest of your week and this terrific spring weather while we still have it!

Mrs. Alvarez

Food For Thought
1) Growth in STEM college degrees. In this issue we spotlighted Mrs. Negron's class (5th grade science), Mrs. Hall's class (4th grade math), Mrs. Blanco's class (3rd grade engineering), and Mrs. Bonnet-Castro's class (kindergarten science).
Note for our Tiger parents: The growth in STEM college degree recipients has far outpaced that for all degrees. Between 2010 and 2018, the most recent year for which data is available, the number of STEM bachelor’s degrees awarded grew by 62%, compared with 20% growth for all degrees.

2) Student and family heath. Obesity is one of the leading risk factors for early death:

3) The benefits from quitting smoking are many. After just 20 minutes, the first health improvements begin, with a drop in heart rate and blood pressure. Within 12 hours carbon monoxide levels return to normal and after a few weeks lung function increases and circulation improves.

4) "THE WAY TO THE TOP"

A group of elementary school students were visiting the Washington Monument on a trip to Washington D.C. As they arrived, some of the parents who helping to chaperone heard a guide announce, "Ladies and gentlemen, there is currently a two-hour wait to ride the elevator to the top of the monument." The guide then paused a moment, smiled, and added, "However, there is no wait should you desire to take stairs."

This story reveals something about success. In truth, there are no elevators to the top. If you want to make it there, you've got to take a long series of steps. How many steps you're willing to take - and how long you're willing to keep climbing - determines how high you will go.
