The Tiger's Roar!

Tildenville Elementary School Community Brief

Wednesday, August 24, 2022

Dear Mark,

Thank you for an incredible first one and a half weeks of school. I am grateful to our extremely dedicated teachers and staff and to our amazing parents and students for making the start of this school year a smooth and successful one. Our Tigers and Tiger parents have already learned a lot about the academic expectations, rules and procedures to follow at Tildenville.

We have included in this edition essential beginning of the school year parent information in order to make it easy for you to access through one document. I ask that you read every section in its entirety and I hope you will enjoy some of our early year classroom highlights. As you will see, our young Tigers are already fully engaged in their academics!

Thank you for your continued support!

Tijuana Flats Spirit Night Wednesday, Aug. 31 (5PM-8PM):

Arrival & Dismissal

The patrols are doing an AMAZING job this year during arrival and dismissal! We have so many car riders this year we are unloading right up to the first bell. We want to make sure ALL Tigers are in their classrooms by the second bell. We are also dismissing quite a few more Tigers than in the past. Here are ways to get through the line quickly.

Arrival:

  • When the car line stops in the morning please have your Tigers exit the car immediately. We are trying to unload at least 13 cars at a time. Please do not ask to go to the top of the car line to drop off. This is slowing the line down for everyone. Patrols are available to walk the younger kids to class.

  • If you need to assist your Tiger getting out of the car please park your car along the sidewalk, help them out of the car and walk them up the sidewalk to the main building. This will keep the line flowing smoothly.

Dismissal:

  • Have your car tag hanging from the rearview mirror.
  • Once your child is in the car, take down the car tag.
  • Drive past the person calling cars slowly so the caller has time to read the names accurately.
  • Students will be called twice, if they do not arrive after the second call parents will have to go around the car line again.

Lost and Found

Parents, please remember to label water bottles, lunch boxes, hoodies and jackets. The lost and found is already collecting items.

New Staff Spotlight

Greetings Tiger Families!

My name is Esther Londoño-Scott and I am new to Tildenville Elementary School. I am so excited to be a part of this loving and nurturing community. My goal as a counselor is to assist students with overcoming barriers that prevent them from reaching their full potential.

This month, my focus will be on visiting classrooms for counselor introductions. In the coming months, I will also be facilitating classroom presentations on a district-wide program called Child Safety Matters. If you’re interested in having your student join a club that focuses on kindness, be on the lookout for Kindness Ambassadors. I look forward to a successful and fun school year!

Classroom Highlights

Mrs. Edward's 3rd grade class is learning about symmetry in math.

Students in all grades are already hard at work in Mrs. Gisbert's art class making beautiful paintings.

Mrs. Stella's 4th grade class did a STEM challenge last week to practice perseverance skills. They had to see who could build the tallest, free-standing marshmallow tower in 10 minutes.

Volunteer at Tildenville!

Parents, we would love you to become an ADDitions Volunteer for this school year! Once you are approved to become an ADDitions volunteer you will be able to go on school field trips and volunteer around the school! Once you have become a volunteer, we have three opportunities available right now that need assistance. We are looking for garden helpers, lunchroom assistants, and parent workroom volunteers. Once you are approved and you would like to volunteer for one of these positions, please attach yourself to the opportunity.

If you need assistance, please contact the school secretary and ADDitions coordinator Nancy Aybar.

School Advisory Council (SAC)

What is the School Advisory Council (SAC)?

This is a group of representatives of teachers, educational support employees, parents and community members that assist the principal with developing and evaluating the school improvement plan. Each group of representatives is selected by their peer group. Community members are appointed by the principal.

When do we meet?

Typically, the second Tuesday of each month at 4pm in the TES Media Center.

Who can attend the SAC Meetings?

Any parent or community partner at Tildenville and faculty… you can attend without being a voting member.

Who votes on business at the SAC meetings?

Those parents, teachers, and community members that choose to commit themselves to attending the meetings and are voted on by their peer group, i.e. parents by parents… (Since members can only have two unexcused consecutive absences, it is important that you can make that commitment to join us at each meeting.)

We will make a list of those parents interested in being on the ballot as a voting member and/or officer of SAC. Please either attend the meeting on 8/23 or email tildenvillesac@gmail.com to express your interest in being on the SAC ballot. We will vote on membership next month.

Any questions or concerns, please feel free to email Joanna Mosby, SAC Chair, at tildenvillesac@gmail.com

Thank you for all that you do in helping to make Tildenville the best place for our students!

Your PTA Dollars At Work!

The PTA welcomed Tigers back to campus this year with gusto! From the giant "Welcome Back Tigers" sign to the Tildenville Elementary photo opp with tiger balloon towers, the PTA provided places for parents and students to capture those First Day of School memories!

We also put on our annual "Boohoo-Woohoo Breakfast" for parents. Our generous sponsors, Hillcrest Insurance Agency and Wawa, provided a coffee bar, pastries, fresh fruit, juice and waters. Kindergarten parents were given a special goodie bag and completed a sweet art project with their names and their child's name. We hope you all enjoyed this first day of school tradition.

Parent Tech Tips

It is critical that families support students by monitoring their progress each week. The best place to do this is in Skyward Family Access. This is the official grade book in Orange County Public Schools.

Take Action:

• Set a digital reminder for you and your child to review grades each week.

• Login to the OCPS Parent Portal, enter Skyward Family Access and check the grade book. Watch this short video to learn how.

• Identify missing assignments in the Skyward Gradebook. This quick video tip will show you how

• Don't wait for surprises! Set alerts in Canvas Parent to monitor day-to-day progress. This video will show you how on a mobile device. Use this video if using a laptop/desktop computer.

• If you cannot login to the OCPS Parent Portal and enter Skyward Family Access, please submit an OCPS Parent Portal Concerns Form
