It’s time to get Back to School!

You didn’t think next week was just about kids, did you? It’s also for the young at heart. Just in time for back to school, we received a truckload worth of new fabric that seemed to tie right into with the thoughts of teachers, parents and kids everywhere about returning to class. 

We have a lot to cover in today’s "curriculum" so let’s get right to it shall we?

Long Weekend Hours – Quilters Cupboard is CLOSED for in-store shopping on Saturday, September 3^rd. 

Gather around everyone, we’re starting off with story time courtesy of children’s book illustrator Bonnie Lemaire. Bonnie is set to teach our little ones their ABCs and 123s in a whimsical way!

Bonnie is a freelance illustrator from Ontario who has seen her work utilized in many different projects, including home décor, giftware, stickers, toy design, children’s books and finally... FABRIC! Her eternal optimism is the foundation of every drawing. Silliness and quirky behaviour of those around her are a constant inspiration. Comical and curious characters and creatures come alive and dance on her pages.

In Bonnie's ABC 123 collection for Northcott fabrics, whimsical animals help children learn to count and to recite the alphabet. The ABC 123 collection features a large block panel (76.5” x 43”) that includes the alphabet and numbers 1-10, a “Find and Count” book panel and an assortment of whimsical animal and letter prints. 

Much like teachers were busy preparing their classrooms and parents were busy getting back to schools this week, we were busy putting together bundles and kits. This whimsical collection is easy to have fun with.

18-piece Fat Quarter and Fat Eighth Bundles Available!

These bundles include 11 pieces from the ABC 123 collection and 7 coordinating Colorworks solids. This will help you stash these away for use with your favourite fat quarter or fat eighth friendly pattern. 

Kits Available!

I know you’re wondering what you can do with a 76.5” x 43” panel with all 26 letters of the alphabet, numbers 1 to 10, and a few extra blocks with common letters thrown in there as well. The animals are fun and the colours pop, but what can you do with them? Lucky for us, Cathey Laird of Cathey Marie Designs has a menagerie of ideas to get you started!

You can take the letters from the panel and make this ABC Menagerie quilt.

123 Menagerie Kit

You can take the numbers from the panel and make a smaller 123 Menagerie quilt.

ABC 123 Menagerie Kit – 2 Quilts in One Kit!

If you can’t decide which one you like, the ABC 123 Menagerie pattern includes instructions for both quilts and you can make two quilts.

Teach the little ones their letters, teach them their numbers or teach them both! These Menagerie kits include everything you need to make the top of the quilts, including the binding. You will just need to add backing. 

Storybook Quilt Kit

Help the little ones Find and Count their way through numbers, with the storybook or turn the storybook panel into an adorable quilt. 

This quilt is the perfect size to snuggle up and start to count. You need only pick the perfect backing to complete this whimsical wonder. 

Is it time for recess already? Let’s take our learning outside with the help of Jane Carkill and Figo Fabrics.  

The unique landscape of designer Jane’s homeland is the ultimate inspiration for Heavenly Hedgerow. Jane creates "organic records" of botanical specimens, fauna and landscapes portraying the distinctive elements and characteristics of memories, folklore, and personal history of her everyday experience in the countryside.

Heavenly Hedgerow is a 13-piece collection with fat quarter bundles available. 

Kits Available!

Asagail is fat quarter friendly pattern from Villa Rosa Designs. It’s the perfect way to showcase the nature inspired prints from the collection. This kit includes everything you need to make the top of the quilt, including the binding. You will just need to add backing. 

If you did any back to school shopping this week, you couldn’t help but notice that winter coats and boots have arrived in the stores. I couldn’t bring myself to go near the racks much less have my kids try anything on (something I’m sure I will regret later on). As much as I’m resistant to all thoughts of colder weather, the new Warm and Cozy flannel collection from Northcott is so cute that I just had to make an exception. 

Half Metre and Fat Quarter Bundles Available!

Warm and Cozy is a 12-piece flannel collection that also has a panel with “slightly wider than high blocks” featuring some fun-loving bears. 12-piece half metre and fat quarter bundles are available. 

Kits Available!

Patti Carey of Patti’s Patchwork came up with a great pattern to feature the panel blocks and at the same time was mindful of not having too many small pieces for this flannel quilt.

Collage is a fun and quick quilt project that is available in three cozy sizes.

Kits are available for all three sizes for the Collage quilt. You only need to pick a cozy backing as the kits include the pattern and all fabric for the quilt top and binding. 

We’re eager to welcome you back to classes beginning next week with a little bit of everything on the schedule. You will find class information on the website, and you’re invited to have a look and find something that interests you. 

Will it be… The Christmas Sampler Mini-Quilt, some scrappiness Lori Holt fun or will you join Leianne for more precision and less stress with Studio 180?

With so many fabulous baby and kids' fabrics arriving this week, we had to make some room and that meant shuffling some older, but still adorable kids fabric to the Clearance section. This is a great way to pick up fabrics for your next project for a special little one.
