"Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.”

-- Colossians 3:1-2

Dear fellow alumni,

Last month, some birds took over the wreath on our front door and built a nest. It was fun to watch them grow, but before too long, it was time to fly. Next week, it will be time for our spring graduates to fly, too!

Just like these brand-new alumni, we all have a bright future ahead of us in Christ Jesus. The apostle Paul tells us in Colossians to “set our hearts on things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God.” Keeping our focus on Christ, we are able to live out Concordia’s mission to serve Him in the Church and the world.

God bless and keep our hearts on things above.

CUAA sim lab acquires new manikins to enhance learning

Concordia’s simulation lab recently added two new members to the Lifecast manikin family – Bernard and Lilly! The simulation lab has had an elderly female, known as Bernadette, for almost four years, and after receiving a generous donation from the Edwin J. & Ruth M. Shoemaker Foundation, CUAA was able to purchase two more manikins, a senior adult male and a female child. Once they arrived on campus, The Student Nurses Association held a naming contest. Alumnus gives testimony on how CUAA has helped him

Dean Pate (’87) will readily say that his time at CUAA prepared him for life after graduation, but not always in the ways one might expect. Sure, professors’ lectures and assigned readings played a role, but it was the lived experiences that made all the difference.

“What I got at Concordia was good base knowledge, which gave me the ability to adapt and inspired me to continue learning into the future,” says Pate. “Taking advantage of your time at the university by being part of things like Student Government Association, that is really the stuff that goes above and beyond to prepare you for later in life.”

Teacher Certification on the rise at Concordia

Despite the ongoing teacher shortage, CUAA brought in the largest cohort of teacher certification graduate students to date for the spring semester. We sat down with program director Dr. Sara Clemm von Hohenberg to hear her thoughts on the relevancy of this program in the current education climate and the incredible current intake of students. To read more, click here.

Career Closet looking for professional clothing donations

The office of Career Engagement and Industry Relations is excited to open the Career Closet this coming fall 2023. The Career Closet will serve as a professional clothing center for students to rent apparel for their next interview, career summit or other professional events. As we plan and prepare the launch of this resource to students, we are seeking help from alumni to stock our closet! We hope to offer students a wide range of apparel from suit coats and blazers to appropriate accessories. If you happen to have new or gently used items that you no longer want, please consider donating them to CUAA. Refer to the flyer to the right for a list of items we are looking to accept. Please email Director of Career Engagement, Alisha Greaves, at Alisha.greaves@cuaa.edu to setup a time to donate your items or ask additional questions.
