Newcastle Chamber Update - July 14 2022
Time To Take Advantage Of The Summer!
The weather is warm, people are out and about and there seems to be a movement to free the pent-up desire to travel, holiday and spend in general. Hopefully our members are seeing some positive trends in their business. I believe we will continue to see waves of various variants and hopefully the majority will continue to protect themselves, you and your staff. In the meantime, let’s make hay while the sun shines!
Promote "Shop Local"
Now that your customers are ready to spend make sure they are aware you are up and running and ready to serve their needs. Make sure your social media is being updated regularly in a productive manner. Take advantage of local advertising, partner with like businesses to do joint promotions. Continue to promote “Shop Local” at every opportunity. This has been one of our ongoing projects the Chamber has funded. Please take time to check your business listing on the Chamber website for accuracy. If you need help reach out to our webmaster Brian Rutherford, [email protected]
Upcoming Seminars With Durham College
The Chamber is working with Durham College with various programs. There will be opportunities for mentoring, co-op and in college sessions for our members. There is currently an opportunity to participate in their mentoring program. If you have an interest, please contact Jim Norwood at [email protected] and we will send additional information. We are currently having a series of in college seminars involving three of our member businesses. This is a great opportunity to make upcoming graduates aware of your business and create an opportunity.
Chamber Seminars At The Library
We would like your feedback regarding some Chamber seminars. We did these a few years back at the library and were very successful. Ideas we are looking at would be social media, marketing, financing alternatives. Please feel free to offer suggestions and volunteer to head up a session highlighting your service. The Chamber will provide the room and refreshments, you provide the message.
Membership Renewal Cost Reduced
The Chamber has been proactive in trying to make membership easier with the difficulties the past few years have put on our members.
We have reduced membership renewal down from $150.00 to $100.00 plus HST.
Business Highlight - Algoma Orchards
The Kemp Family began growing apples in the 1800's with Algoma Orchards starting in 1964. They would grow, pack, and ship apples to local grocery stores, their humble roots allowing them to learn the fundamentals of apple growing and selling. Since then, Algoma Orchards has grown immensely and continues to do so.
The Algoma Orchards Gourmet Market became a staple for many Durham Region locals, while the packing plant operates day and night to produce apple products for Canadians across the country.
As leaders in our community, Algoma Orchards aims to support local organizations that focus on others in need. Their local philanthropy includes donations to Bowmanville Hospital, local Hospice, food drives and shelters, team sponsorships and higher education!
Wishing you all a Safe, Happy and Profitable Summer!!!
