PLEASE VOLUNTEER...
We really need you!!!
Help keep the trash impact of our Bainbridge signature celebrations low by staffing a discard station on July 3rd and/or July 4th.

Station ambassadors guide guests as they put their discards into compost, recycling and landfill bins. You'll have a grabber to re-sort if necessary. (Don't worry -- we train you.) People are grateful for your guidance, and your continuous presence and attention keep the containers contamination-free so we don't have to send organics to the landfill, where they create a powerful greenhouse gas, methane.

We cannot do this without you...for real!
We have 64 volunteer slots to fill.

There's still time to get tickets for ReFashion Bainbridge's Fashion in the Forest (formerly known as the Trashion Show) at IslandWood on Sunday, June 12. Come anytime between 1-4pm for a stroll along the trails and speak with the designers and models stationed at various intervals. The outfits this year -- numbering over 20 -- have been created to meet the criteria from these three juried categories: Theatrical, Ready-to-Wear, and Mystery Box Challenge.

Extra optional activities during your visit:
  • Scavenger hunt
  • Clothing swap (bring one item in good condition)
  • Audience Award voting
  • Creative postcard writing effort to rethink t-shirts as event prizes
  • Self-exploration of IslandWood's two treehouses and forest canopy tower

Join the Green Team
for Rotary Collection Week
Mix and match the fun of helping on the Green Team during Rotary Auction intake week and Sale Day.

The Green Team has five "departments" that are active during the five-day donation collection period, from 8am-8pm each day, as well as on Sale Day.

Bonus: By volunteering for a certain number of hours, you get the chance to peruse and buy before the general public!

Here are brief descriptions of each group:

  • The Recycling Team - Traverses the school grounds inside and out checking on the waste stations and wheeling recyclables and LOO-appropriate items to the proper collection areas.
  • Cardboard and Box Team - Breaks down incoming cardboard boxes and loads the cardboard dumpster, as well as saves and distributes useful boxes as needed.
  • Food Team - Monitors the cafeteria waste stations during the lunch and dinner hours to make sure that compostables, recyclables and trash are properly sorted from volunteer and auction meals.
  • Land of Opportunity (LOO) - Identifies and diverts unsold items to nonprofits and recycling endpoints during collection week.
  • Green Team Desk - Command Central for all our green teams during collection week and responsible for working with all individual departments. Note: This is a job with more sitting and less walking.
  • Post-Sale Landfill Diversion Team – Packs department leftovers and coordinates the transition into trucks to make sure that what is not sold at the rummage sale finds a new home other than the landfill!
Who's Reusing and Recycling in Our Community?
We're shining the spotlight on two island institutions:
PAWS and Pickleball. Why?
PAWS is using corrugated plastic signs to advertise its upcoming fundraiser. BUT, the signs are generic enough that they use stickers to replace the temporal information and thereby reuse the signs for subsequent fundraisers.
The pickleball community loves their sport but hates sending cracked balls to the landfill. It was a team effort to track down a company that could truly recycle those balls instead. Congrats, pickleballers, for being as tenacious hunting down an end-user as you are at chasing down shots.
Free Kitsap Recycling Event
Kitsap Public Works, in partnership with the Washington Department of Ecology and Navy City Metals, is holding its free, annual collection of waste tires and scrap metal for households only. The max is 15 tires, and no commercial tires are allowed. For information on all the types of tires and metal accepted, go here.
