Builder Tip #119 from HomebuiltHELP
How to Pick the Best Engine for your Homebuilt
An almost impossible question to answer seems to be: Which is the Best Engine for my Homebuilt?
One of the most common and difficult questions to answer is that of selecting the "best" engine for a small experimental aircraft. It is a challenge of matching the unique needs of three players: the aircraft, the engine, and the pilot/builder.

This video demonstrates a systematic checklist method to ensure that several key tasks are performed on the journey to narrowing down the "best" choice.

Analysis of particular engine features can be controversial. Approaching the search in terms of meeting personal requirements can help to make sure that the final choice brings us as close to possible to the 'best' choice.

Few choices we make as builders are as important or complicated as selecting our engine.
