“In times of stress, the best thing we can do for each other is to listen with our ears and our hearts and to be assured that our questions are just as important as our answers.”

Feng Shui Gift Giving
Re-gifting is definitely Feng Shui-friendly because it removes things you don't want from your home and sends them to a place where they are welcome. Just be sure to avoid re-gifting if you have negative feelings about the gift or its original giver, since you might be passing along your negative thoughts to the next recipient.
Looking for the perfect gifts? The gifts you choose may have a great deal of hidden meaning according to Feng Shui. Here are some gifts to avoid giving and options for reversing the hidden message in these gifts if you receive them: Steer clear of giving an empty wallet, purse, or briefcase as a gift, as it symbolizes the lack of prosperity. Instead, fill it with dollar bills, or coins to send the message that your gift will always be abundant with wealth for the recipient. In the West, timepieces are quite popular gifts. These include: alarm clock, wall clock, pocket watch, and wristwatch. Timepieces measure the passage of time and this subtly suggests a limited lifespan, which is very inauspicious. It is not recommended to give knives, scissors, or letter openers as gifts since they denote
cutting a relationship. If you are the recipient of any of these gifts, hand over a coin to the giver to symbolize that you bought the item, and nullifies the negative effects.

Final Thoughts: Experiential Gifts
|
|
If you are conscious about living simply or sustainably, not wanting to generate waste and trash...an alternative to the traditional
gift in a box
- is the Experiential Gift.
Experiential gifts, otherwise known as gift experiences, offer the recipient an
experience such as skydiving, kayaking, touring a vineyard, tickets to a special event, etc. Memories are made, little to zero waste is generated, often times small businesses benefit, and you create an ongoing gift.
Experiential gifts don't have to be complicated or expensive...you could even offer a coupon book for rock climbing, hiking, craft workshops, museum excursion, movies and bowling. And don't forget a Feng Shui consultation.
You might need to find out if the date of a specific event will work, or set it up so that they can select their own date to reduce any stress or conflicts.
P.S. One of our other favorite ideas is a donation gift. Find out an organization that you recipient loves or some other passion and make a donation in their game. For example, if they love dogs and cats, you could donate to their local shelter - in their name.
