A Note from Scott and Marsha
November 3, 2022
Here's to hoping you have stepped away from your child's stash of Halloween candy. Put down the Snickers. Toss the Milky Way. And stop justifying yourself by saying, "But it's a mini size!" Just kidding, just kidding. You do you and I'll just keep enjoying this Reese's cup and licking my fingers while I tap away on my keyboard.

I'm veering off course from our before/after series at FGS for a hot minute because this was too cute to pass up right after Halloween.

Scott and I were out and about one day in a cute little shop and they had this duck dressed in a Santa hat and matching scarf. I knew EXACTLY who needed it.
Meet Hannah's new assistant, Tippy Todd.

Hannah is Scott's Executive Assisant and her wit keeps him in check. She is obsessed with FGS ducks and our one resident Canadian Goose, Henry. Henry arrived with his flock but he was injured by one of our T-Rex turtles, so his flock kicked him out. Wrong on so many levels.

Anyway, when I told Scott I had to buy this for Hannah, he nodded, "Yeah, I can't wait to see what she does with that."

And here you go! We decided Tippy Todd will have outfits for all the seasons and reside on her desk! She can dress him in a turkey hat with feathers for Thanksgiving. She can add bells at Christmas. She can have a blue hat with snowflakes in January, hearts for Valentine's Day... I mean the ideas and possibilities are quite endless. And I'm totally on board with the creativity with Tippy Todd. Hannah returned to my office with his Halloween outfit. I'm dead.

If you didn't have a chance to "fly" in for Halloween, stop by this weekend! We are still here with pumpkins, mums, pansies, and such. This extended service is for those who have procrastinated or made Tik-Tok videos claiming you did not have the time, energy, or care to decorate. I mean, by the time you did 45 takes, cut your video, added all the pizzazz to it, and fixed your make-up, you could have decorated, but you do you. At FGS, we decorate.

GARDEN CENTER FEATURES
MONSTERA
Also known as the Swiss Cheese Plant, the Split Leaf Philodendron, and Monster Plant! Monsteras come in multiple sizes and varieties. You can let the soil dry out a bit between waterings, but make sure your Monstera has plenty of humidity, as they are tropical plants. River stone humidity trays are excellent for Monsteras!

The holes in the leaves, called fenestrations, help maximize the amount of sunlight absorbed while saving energy by having less leaf cells to nurture. If your space doesn't have enough light, new leaves will be smaller and have fewer splits in them. When finding the perfect spot for your Monstera, make sure it doesn't sit in direct sunlight because that can scorch the leaves.
MINI BIRDBATHS

A few weeks ago, we shared some of the benefits of including a bird bath in your garden. They provide a water source for birds and pollinator insects, which in turn will help them
pollinate your garden!

If you don't have room for a full-size bird bath, then a small one might be just what you need! They are perfect for smaller birds and pollinators and don't take up as much space as our larger options. They also make unique and adorable gifts, so if you've started your holiday shopping, we've got another idea for your list!

EVERGREEN DESIGNER DROP-INS

The FGS team is so excited to share our new hot item for your winter porch decor: Evergreen Designer Drop-Ins! If you've just brought your tropicals inside for the colder months but want to leave your outdoor pottery on display, we've got you covered!

Our Designer Drop-Ins are created around our 1-gallon "miniature" shrubs and are entirely customizable for your design preferences. They are designed to "drop in" to your current pottery to bring fresh colors to your porch, patio, or backyard for the colder months. We build them with the Companion Planting strategy; by selecting plants that have similar lighting and watering needs, the Designer Drop-Ins are set up for success!

Next spring, when you're ready for your tropicals to come back outside, the Evergreen Designer Drop-Ins can be planted in your garden or landscape so you can enjoy them for years to come - or you just might have to add more pottery to keep them on your porch year-round!

The weather is definitely cooling down and we want to make sure you don't forget to prepare your lawn and garden for the cooler months.
