Statewide Release

Adult Education and Family Literacy (AEFL) Week

September 14-20, 2025

Ideas for how to celebrate the week:

  • Meet and plan with your Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) program partners on ways to highlight co-enrolled students' success stories. Consider having large posters in the PA CareerLink® office, videos playing in waiting areas, and social media posts. Note: Be sure to have all proper signed releases.
  • Invite local representatives (state representatives, commissioners, workforce board staff) to visit a class. *
  • Share the SOS (Support our Students) Fund with learners. Up to $1,000 Emergency grants are provided to an adult learner to offset an immediate barrier to sustained learning at a local program. Both the adult learner and the local program must be members of COABE.
  • Use chalk or window markers to share positive messages about adult education in public spaces: sidewalks, windows, campus entrances (with permission). Keep it bold, hopeful, and visible. *
  • Cover a hallway or virtual platform with learner dreams. Ask: What does your future look like because of adult education? Display photos, words, or artwork. *
  • Participate in a Coalition on Adult Basic Education (COABE) virtual event during AEFL week.
  • Complete an advocacy activity from the Pennsylvania Association for Adult Continuing Education (PAACE) advocacy toolkit.
