10 Tips for Virtual Job Fairs
On Tuesday, April 21st, TFS hosted a webinar on
Navigating Virtual Job Fairs
. A job fair, whether virtual or not is an opportunity for job seekers and employers to meet; meeting virtually can be challenging, so here are 10 tips to keep in mind:
- Do your Homework - research employers for openings that fit
- Check your Technology - make sure your webcam, mic and connection are good
- Physical Space - make sure you are in a quiet space, free of distractions
- Update your resume and LinkedIn profile
- Practice and/or develop an Elevator Pitch
- Ask and practice answering questions from employers - you'll be able to "chat" with employers
- Decide what to wear - dressing up will help you mentally prepare
- Be organized - have note paper and pen handy
- Create a calendar reminder - so you don't miss the event
- Have a tracking system - to keep track of contacts
Also, you want to remember to check in to the virtual job fair as early as you can, prepare your responses to questions beforehand (practice cutting and pasting) and don't forget to follow-up. Send a thank you email as soon as possible after the job fair to demonstrate appreciation for the employer's time and show interest.
Good luck!
