Keep track of leftovers

  • Choose at least one day a week to eat leftovers or use ingredients from your fridge.
  • Eat the oldest food in your fridge first.
  • Reheat leftovers using the original cooking method. A toaster oven, air fryer or stovetop might result in tastier leftovers than the microwave.

All about glass recycling

Making new glass uses sand, soda ash, limestone and lots of energy. Recycling glass saves resources and prevents harm to the environment. Glass can be recycled many times without losing quality.

When you recycle glass bottles and jars, they are sorted by color. Then, they are cleaned, crushed and mixed with new materials. The mixture is then melted and molded into new bottles and jars. Recycled glass is also used to make home insulation and other construction materials.

Reminder:

  • Only put food-grade glass bottles and jars in the glass container.
  • Never put glass in the recycling bin with the paper, plastic and metal.
  • Remove and throw away lids. Rinse bottles and jars.

Safe disposal of hazardous waste

Hazardous waste can harm people, pets and the environment. Common examples include cleaning products, pesticides, batteries and used medical needles. Dispose of these items safely.

Reminder:

  • Do not put hazardous waste in the garbage or drain.
  • Do not rinse chemical containers.
  • Take hazardous waste to a community event or Metro facility

Find a community collection event by using the Garbage and Recycling Day app’s What to Recycle and Where tool.

Crinkly and easy-to-crush pots and trays go in the garbage.

Save plastic eggs for reuse next year.

Otherwise, they go in the garbage.

Candy wrappers:

Put in the garbage.
