YOU CAN BE A BLESSING FOR A HUNGRY CHILD
|
|
The response to a recent student survey (pictured) completed by a third-grader in the
Blessings in Backpack
program in Frederick, Md. really touched our hearts. The child questioned in the comments section about receiving food on Friday:
"It's every last day of school, right?"
Because of people like you, we can reassure kids that, "Yes, you will have food to eat this weekend."
The impact of our mission is much more than filling empty bellies. Research shows that kids served by Blessings feel cared for by their community, believe they are helping their families, and have increased attendance on Fridays.

The Blessings in a Backpack program of Bayou City in Houston confirms that
consistency matters when it comes to feeding kids on the weekends
. When the volunteers rescheduled their normal delivery time from morning to afternoon, children were left in a frenzy.
"When we arrived on campus, we were met with tears, restlessness, and distress, as reported to us by the teachers and administrators. The kids had come to expect Blessings in a Backpack at a specific time, hearing our carts and seeing us move around campus from their classroom windows. When we didn't arrive, as usual, they became fearful that 'Blessings wasn't coming,' and that they wouldn't have their food for the weekend. Since then, we have never altered our delivery schedule."

Who will feed the kids this weekend?

We believe that every school-aged child in America should have the nourishment they need to learn and grow. There are millions of kids who would benefit from Blessings in a Backpack... but they need someone in their community to make it happen.
