"The 9 Days"
Beginning with Rosh H odesh Av (Tuesday, July 21-Wednesday, July 22) we enter a period known as "The 9 Days" (before Tisha B'Av) during which it is traditional to refrain from getting a haircut, purchasing or wearing new clothes, eating meat, and drinking wine (except on Shabbat and certain other celebratory occasions). These observances extend until the 10th of Av when the destruction of the Temple concluded.
